The Awakening (Hasea Chronicles #1) by Stuart Meczes

The Awakening

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

Alexander Eden is a teenager who hasn’t had a great time lately. His father died when he was a baby, his mother remarried and he has a half-brother two years younger than him. His stepfather is always reminding him of his deficiencies of fitting into his family and is always telling him he needs to play sports and be more like Mikey, his brother.

Alex is bullied like no one else at his school. He really hates his life, he’s bullied, he doesn’t have any friends. The one friend he has, thinks he only puts up with him because he feels sorry for him. But everything changes one day when a new girl starts at the school. She asks Alex, whom most avoid like the plague, to show her to her classes and help her out. Alex agrees, thinking something might be wrong with her and asks her why she’s hanging around him when everyone else is avoiding him.

Before long, Alex goes missing for three days. When he gets back home and becomes aware, he thinks it’s the next morning when in fact it’s been three days. Mikey decides to help cover for him once Alex fills him in and they do a few tests. Alex is now some kind of supernatural being. He has super-strength and super speedy. But what else is going on with him after those discoveries?

This book was a fun read. I liked it from the first page all the way to the last. I couldn’t put it down. Alex, Gabriella and others are characters that each and every one can relate to or know someone who has been in a situation somewhat like the ones showcased in the book (minus the superpowers though.) I would definitely recommend this book to readers of fantasy and paranormal books.
