Title: Carnival of Darkness (FaeTAL #1)
Author: Becca Moree
Price: Free on Kindle $5.99 Paperback
Release Date: July 14, 2016
Description: Brett sold his soul to the devil. Only hell isn’t a fiery pit in the bowels of the earth. Hell is the Carnival of Darkness where the freak shows are real, the screams never end, and the girl of his dreams has become a part of his nightmare.
Charlee has been kidnapped by the freaks that run The Carnival of Darkness. If that weren’t bad enough, she’s harboring a secret that will put her life in even more danger should her captors find out. Now, she has a decision to make – keep her head down and wait on someone to save her, or fight to escape and get back to the ones she left behind.
Brett wants to trust Charlee with the reason he is working at the carnival, but she still has reservations about his intentions. Charlee doesn’t trust anyone, but Brett may be her only hope.
WARNING: This circus and the carnies within are FREAKS with extremely dirty mouths and minds that some may find offensive. COD is filled with dark, demented, horrific, depraved and disturbing things. If you aren’t into paranormal creatures as well as a bit of blood, guts and taboo things this book is not for you! (Trigger Warning)
Oh man. This book. It is DARK and demented. It is definitely NOT for the faint hearted or those that have trigger warnings such as abuse, rape and the like. I think Charlee is my favorite character outside Brett so far. She’s a strong woman who will do anything to protect her daughter’s life and secret while protecting her own secret as well.
The guys at the C.o.D are definitely freaks, minus Brett. I honestly think he’s going to have psychological damage going into the next book after everything he’s been through that we’ve read about in the book plus stuff we don’t know about!
I would highly recommend this book to those that like dark reads. My only issue with the book is that it’s so short at only 106 pages! 4*’s solid!

100 Days in Deadland is the first book in the Deadland Saga series by Author Rachel Aukes. This book is fashioned to the likes of Dante’s Inferno where each “layer” had a different theme behind it.
The book starts out with Mia Ryan, aka Cash, on her way to a meeting at work. She bumps into a fellow coworker who is out of sorts. It only takes a few minutes before she is fighting for her life against the coworker. She kills said coworker after a good bout in the women’s restroom. She is heading up to her office when she runs into another coworker, Alan. They end up fleeing the office together and try to head to Mia’s place since it’s closer. Only, they get hit on the highway behind a traffic jam. A semi-driver, Clutch, stops and allows them on his rig, only to have Alan turn into a zombie.
Clutch agrees to take Cash, he coined the term based on how she was dressed, on for only a day. That turns into two more and eventually he quits telling her she has so many days left. On their first scouting mission to loot and check out the nearest town, they run into some of Clutch’s neighbors, the parents had both been bitten but the teenage son hadn’t been. He tells Jase that he can come to his farm when he’s ready and they continue on their way.
It doesn’t take long before they are out scouting again and end up threatened by the militia group that was working on securing the area. Since both Clutch and Cash refuse to join up, they start acting against them. They bring by truckloads of zombies and dump them over the farms gate. On the last trip, Tyler Masden from Camp Fox rolls up with his unit of men. They justify the killing of Doyle’s two men and don’t arrest Cash, Clutch or Jase. Clutch and Cash go with Tyler to Doyle’s base where Cash ends up shooting one of their men from a previous altercation. Tyler arrests Cash and takes her back to Camp Fox.
She’s released later and assumed dead in the ensuing chaos that happens while she’s locked in the brig. After a full day of traveling, she eventually makes it back to the farm to find it in a blaze. Doyle’s men set it on fire. She hunkers down in the bomb shelter and Clutch ends up joining her. Shit hits the fan quicker than expected after this hit.
Rachel Aukes is a new to me author. The cover drew me in but the story kept me glued to the pages. I couldn’t get enough. I was reading this straight through from the moment I started reading it. I liked Clutch from the start as well as Cash and Jase. It took a while for Tyler to grow on me because I thought he was sketchy. He proved me wrong. I was completely wrong on who the traitor ended up being in Camp Fox and honestly didn’t expect it to be who it ended up being.
The story is a steady pace and makes sense with the progression. I like that the book is fashioned in a Dante’s Inferno style. I honestly can’t wait to get the second book in the Deadland Saga to find out what happens to all the survivors and what happens to Cash, Clutch and the others in the new group!

Z14 is the second book in the Zombie Rules series by author David Achord.
Things ramp up a lot in this book. Zack, Macie, Julie and others return in this book. We meet more people, some good and some really bad. Zack ends up in several tights spots but ends up on the winning end each time. Fred leaves the group for over six months to go searching for his daughter in Los Angeles. He eventually returns towards the end of the book.
We learn more about the world and more about the zombies. They are evolving. Bodies aren’t decomposing on some of them and they seem to be functioning on a higher level than normal zombies. A lot of the zombies from the initial outbreak have died off. It was like Zack predicted. They just dropped and didn’t get back up.
There is a functioning military outfit who ends up dropping notes out of a Chinook helicopter. Zack and a few of the group go to the airport and talk with them. They end up making a deal. Zack is going to start a trading post there in the Nashville area. They supply him with 10K rounds of ammo and other things that would be great for trade.
By the end of the book, the group has lost several but gained a lot more. Things were looking up until they realized the zombies were evolving. One of the characters from the first book returns in this one.
This book is better than the first. Once I finished Zombie Rules, I immediately started reading this one. I couldn’t wait to sink my claws into this book and I surely am not disappointed. (I’ll probably have dreams of zombies tonight since I read two books featuring them but hey, it’s something that I dream about even when I don’t read zombie books. LOL)
I like most of the characters that are alive at the end of the book. There are a few I don’t like other than their attitudes. I was saddened by a few peoples deaths in this book and wanted so bad to bring them back.
David Achord was a new to me author when I picked up the first book over a year ago. I am so glad I happened across it and read it. The writing style is consistent, the story flows and you can’t help but love most of the characters and the story itself. There are a few editing errors (punctuation and wording) in this book but nothing major and nothing that interrupts the flow of the book.

Zombie Rules is the first book in the Zombie Rules series by author David Achord. This book is about zombies (if the title didn’t give that away).
The story starts out in the present day. Then it flashes back to a short time before the zombie apocalypse started. Zach Gunderson is a sophomore in high school. His girlfriend is Macie and his best friend is Felix. Macie and he have been together for three months and consummated their relationship. Zack ends up being pulled away from track. He goes to the parking lot to find Rick there who ends up taking him to the hospital.
Zack’s grandma had a stroke and was found by the mailman. She looked frail in the hospital but things didn’t look good for her. She ends up dying a day or two later. Rick ends up talking to Zack and he decides to go live with Rick on the farm that Rick manages for an older couple. Felix and his father go over and help pack the few things up and put it in the trailer Rick and brought along.
The world goes to hell. My monitoring the Ham Radio, they keep track of how the disease is spreading. They use different colored push pins to indicate a low, moderate or downright fall of a city. Within a week, everyplace is red. Rick and Zack maintain the farm and go on scouting missions. While out they come across a family: Don, Janet, Tommy and Julie.
They bring the family back to their place but kick them out a few days later when the family decides they are going to double-cross Rick and Zack. They move on with their lives and one night, Rick dies in his sleep. Zack buries him and keeps on with his life. Things get a whole lot more terrifying and interesting before the end of the book for our characters.
Zack is a character that I like. He doesn’t give himself enough credit as to all that he has accomplished. He creates these rules about zombies and spray paints the rules wherever he can when he adds new ones. By the end of the book, we’re up to ten rules. Mostly, they’re just observations but they make great rules when it comes to the zombies.
There are a few characters that I absolutely hate and I’m glad that some of them end up the way they do. There are a few grammatical errors in here but only a few, nothing that interrupts with the flow of the story or that bars you from figure out what is meant. The story flows well and it’s a good read.
David Achord was a new to me author and I’m really glad I took a chance on this book. I have the second book in the series and am going to be starting it shortly!!

This is the third book in the Infected series by author Joseph Zuko. Jim is trying to fight his way to his mother-in-law’s house. He now knows that’s where his wife and girls were heading with her brother, Troy. They make a run to get supplies to stabilize Devon, nearly getting themselves killed by a mad man in the process.
There are so many close calls in this book that I thought we were going to lose many main characters. Unfortunately, we lost several characters and it saddens me on who they were. I’m liking some characters more and more as the series goes, Leon being one of them. Although, I’m not sure I like where Leon’s thoughts are heading in the book and I can see some SERIOUS trouble brewing in the group if he remains with them.
This was a good read. The author knows how to write to keep you captivated and glued to the pages. I read this in one day because I was entranced with the words on the pages. The images I was able to build because of the author’s descriptions were like watching a movie.

This book was ah-freaking-mazing. The way it ends, it leaves it open to make it into a series and I really wish the author would! There are so many unanswered questions and not enough answers! This book contains action, adventure, horror, zombies, vampires and werewolves. A great read for sure.
Description on back of book:
The Scariest Place on Earth
All guests can interact with real vampires in Vampire Village, be chased by actual werewolves on the River Run, and walk among the dead in Zombieville.
Wyatt, Melvin and Howard, three unpopular high school friends are stuck in Copper Valley, California. Nerdy Howard is oblivious to social cues, Melvin is an oddball outcast, and Wyatt is in love with the unattainable Jade- the most popular girl in school.
Due to a fortuitous circumstance, they are invited tot he star-studded opening of Monsterland. In a theme park full of real vampires, werewolves and zombies, what could possibly go wrong?
The answer to the question posed in the description is A LOT. And I mean a lot. I started reading this book last night and made it to chapter 19 before crashing and finished the rest today. I just can’t even process what I’ve just read! lol. I wish it was longer. I felt it was too short and could have been longer.
I do like this author. I hadn’t read his works before but I was given this book and since it’s one of my favorite genres, I decided to give it a chance. I am glad I did. Vampires, zombies and werewolves in one book! My dream come true! The characters are likable (most of them anyways). The author uses such descriptive details that you can actually image everything happening as you’re reading.

Dave, Holly, Warnick, Springer and more return in the second book of the Tell Me When I’m Dead series by author Steven Ramirez. Dave, Holly and others are able to get a hold of the reporter that’s been covering everything happening in Tres Marias. She and her cameraman are locked up somewhere but they’ve been doing extensive research. Before they flee the building, she writes down the name of a company that is somehow involved and flashes it to the video monitor before fleeing herself. This sets Dave and the others out and on a mission. While fleeing from their location, they are overrun by zombies or draggers as they are called in this series.
A new battalion of Black Dragons show up and rescue them along with Evie. Her cameraman, Jeff, had put himself in danger to allow Evie to get away. When they get back to the high school which is where Black Dragon was hosting their operations and survivors of the outbreak, they are all tested for the virus as Dr Isaac Fallow (from the first book) had been able to find a test with help from his immunologist friends he mentioned before. They all tested negative and they were assigned housing.
What did I just read? I have been engrossed in this book most of the day, taking occassional breaks for snackage and giving my eyes a break from my computer screen. The first book had me in love with the series. This book evokes so many emotions that I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. I have laughed, been mad, been upset and I have even CRIED while reading this book. I just…..UGH! Why did the author do this?! Lol. I, in no way, mean that in a bad way. I just can’t fathom WHY he would do what he did in this second book. I definitely have to read the third book in this series now to get closure!
Let’s just say, there’s a lot of fighting, action, adventure and suspense in this book. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. Like from the first page to the last. I think we can all agree from the types of book reviews I’ve posted that I’m a fan of anything paranormal really. This series, and I’ve only read the first two books of the trilogy, is awesome. These books have more depth to them than most other books I’ve read regarding zombies. The characters are very well developed and you either instantly like or hate them. Some you aren’t so sure about and flip back and forth between. The description of some of the places and scenes are so real that I felt like I was watching a movie as I was reading.

I’ve read four of the other books in this series, the first two books and two novellas that go with it. I really enjoy the works by this author. I will say, this book needs a little bit of editing done with it. There’s some punctuation and wrong words used but still a good read overall.
Jeremiah, Abby, Ava, Gary and others return. From book two we knew that Ava and one of the boys, Connor or Jeremiah, made it out of Connor’s place unscathed while the other was bitten. But we didn’t know which was going to end up among the undead masses. They make it to where everyone else is, that survived the ambush anyways. Jeremiah goes on a run with Gary, Marshall and Tyler while Connor stays laid up in the office of the warehouse they’re in. Connor ends up perishing a few hours later but not before making Jeremiah promise he will keep Abby and Ava safe.
There’s so much going on that I just don’t know what to tell ya’ll and what not too. Abby, Jeremiah and Gary end up separated from everyone else but try to make it to the meet up point they had all designated. There are a lot of trials and errors before the end of this book.
There’s a lot of loss in this book. We loose several of our favorite and beloved characters, one of which is Connor. I won’t name anyone else that dies but just know that I cried a few times reading this book. I love this series. I’m pretty sure with the way it was left the series is over but I really hope there is more too it! I really hope this series doesn’t end the way this book leaves off. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great point to stop it but I REALLY like this series and want it to keep going. Am I being selfish? I’ll admit to being that way when it comes to this series and wanting it to continue! 😀

Die Zombie Die is the third book in hte I Zombie series by author Jack Wallen.
We know that Bethany, Jean and Michelle were all taken captive by the ZDC. They are all being held in separate rooms. They are all strapped down to gurneys to keep them in place. Bethany is the one that they want and the one they want to deliver her baby. They really don’t care about her, only the child growing inside of her.
This book is in the point of view of the head doctor at the ZDC, Danielle. She was working with Dr Lindsay Godwin from the first book on their cure-all pill when Lindsay was pulled away to the other project. She really had no part in the end of the world to her knowledge. She is working within ZDC walls to try and bring the ZDC down without them knowing. She has experiments locked up in some rooms and is trying to create a cure without the ZDC knowing. But they know it all. She just doesn’t know.
Michelle undergoes “surgery” to impregnate her with infected zombie sperm. She isn’t really impregnated with it but you don’t learn that until the end. The deception this woman puts forth is so maddening while reading this book! But she has her reasons and you learn to understand. Sam, one of the soldiers from the previous book, wants to break out Bethany, Michelle and Jean. So he goes in search of some of his former team members and finds them.
They eventually break into the ZDC and break out not only those three but rescue Danielle who Bethany wanted brought along and the man who orchestrated the end of the world. There is another cell operating in New York and they want the man who started the apocalypse. They plant a device on the back of Sam’s neck that is full of zombie virus and are all too willing to push the button to infect him if he doesn’t deliver John Burgess to them. He does and they release the device from his neck.
What comes next, in their words which are fitting, is a major shit storm!
This book was awesome to read. Although it was maddening at times because of the depth of her deception and her conflicting feelings, it is a GREAT read. Jack Wallen hit the mark again with this book.

My Zombie My is the second book in the I Zombie series by Jack Wallen.
We know from the first book that Jacob turned eventually because of his bite and that Bethany put him down. We also know that Susan was bitten by him and infected. Bethany, Sally, Susan and Gunther make it to Paris. They hole up in a hospital. Bethany is keeping Susan sedated because it helped hold off the transformation for Jacob, so it could help with Susan, right? It’s been a week that she’s been under and she’s found a doctor who lives close to the hospital that is willing to risk his life to get there to help out.
Afterall, Bethany does have the encrypted file that contains the cure for what they have dubbed the Mengele Virus. Jean, the doctor, makes it there ans assesses Susan. He knows that keeping her sedated is very risky so he wants to put her in a come which he thinks will help. Bethany agrees. He puts Susan in a come and keeps monitoring her. Bethany sets the laptop up to start cracking the file. All her auto-crackers fail and she is able to eventually get into it.
Things get worse before they get better. There is someone else in the hospital with them. And Bethany doesn’t like it. Which is spot on since he’s spying on them. She eventually catches him and they tie him up. Zander eventually becomes part of their team, but only in appearances. Bethany knows there is something up with him but she doesn’t know what it is. Two more survivors are brought into their group and she eventually trusts them. Mika is eventually injured on a run and Gunther is shot twice by a sniper while trying to save Mika and Michelle. They make it back to the hospital for things to only get worse from there.
Bethany eventually pieces things together and learns Zander’s role in everything. He’s supposed to spy on her and the little group and report back to the ZDC. The ZDC does NOT want Bethany and her group coming up with a cure for the virus and will stop at nothing to prevent her from doing that. When she tumbles to him, he states that he hasn’t reported on them since he became part of their group because he sees the passion and knows there is a need for the cure.
They make it out of the hospital and to another safe spot, with Bethany not trusting Zander with the location of the new spot. They make it there and somehow word gets out about where they are. Susan eventually turns into one of the moaners but only stronger. She is ripped to pieces by another super-charged screamer. Bethany failed to protect her like she promised Jacob so this brings her down.
There is so much more going on in this book than in the first one. Jack Wallen’s writing gets better with each book! I HIGHLY suggest reading this series!!
