Description: The price of survival…

Gabriel Miller swept into my life like a storm. He tore down my father with cold retribution, leaving him penniless in a hospital bed. I quit my private all-girl’s college to take care of the only family I have left.

There’s one way to save our house, one thing I have left of value.

My virginity.

A forbidden auction…

Gabriel appears at every turn. He seems to take pleasure in watching me fall. Other times he’s the only kindness in a brutal underworld.

Except he’s playing a deeper game than I know. Every move brings us together, every secret rips us apart. And when the final piece is played, only one of us can be left standing.

Avery is a young woman who is dealing with the fallout of her father’s scandal, court case and subsequent beating that’s left him immobile. They are broke and she’s sold off everything in the house that was of value to pay for her father’s in home care. She needs money so she goes to someone she believes was involved with her father’s beating, but she has no choice.

They come to terms of having an auction for the only thing she has that’s worth anything: her virginity. The winner of the auction will have her for 30 days: morning, noon and night. To have their way with her within reason.

Gabriel is the one who wins the auction, bidding an exorbitant amount, wanting to make sure he was the winner. Avery knows he had something to do with her father’s beating. She learns just how deep his hate for her father goes and that it’s spilled over to her to further humiliate and diminish her family name.

This book was hot, dark and ah-mazing. I was entranced from the first page and didn’t want to stop until I was finished with it. Skye Warren has a way with words and I can definitely see why she is a bestselling author! I figured out a couple things during the story but man she threw in a couple twists that I WASN’T expecting! The only thing I didn’t like very much, which a lot of readers don’t, is that it ends in a cliffhanger. But I’m okay with it because i did love the story before the cliffhanger blindsided me!

Thank you to my friend who gifted me a copy of this book hoping I would love it as much as she did!

Deadly Intentions (Hardy Brothers Security #1) by Lily Harper Hart

deadly-intentions

Deadly Intentions is the first book in the Hardy Brothers Security series by author Lily Harper Hart.

Amazon Description: Are second chances worth the risk?
Is a childhood crush something that can ever be fully realized?
James Hardy has everything he has ever wanted in life. Almost. After years spent in the military, he has opened his own security business and employed both of his younger brothers in a world he not only embraces, but enjoys. He likes the adventure. He likes the excitement. He certainly isn’t looking for anything more — until she walks through his door and changes everything.
Mandy Avery has harbored a crush on James Hardy for as long as she can remember — and her memory stretches far. She goes to the Hardy brothers out of necessity, but as soon as she sees James she realizes that old feelings aren’t so easily shoved to the side.
James wants to keep her safe. No, he needs to keep her safe — even though he isn’t exactly sure why. Someone is trying to hurt her, and that’s not something he can tolerate. She’s grown into the type of woman he’s drawn to, though, despite his own rule that dating clients is forbidden.
Mandy wants to find out who is threatening her, but being around James is more than she can bear. Something in her very being is propelling her into his arms — even though she knows her heart is at risk with every kiss.
James eventually gives in — and immediately regrets his rash actions. Unfortunately for him, it’s too late. He’s not willing to give her up — and he’s more than ready to die for her if that’s what it takes to keep her safe.
She’s unsure of their future, but Mandy can’t fight his pull. She’s lost — even before he’s ready for her to find him.
When things come to head, will James be able to save the only woman he’s ever really cared about? And will Mandy have enough faith to believe that what he’s offering is real?

James Hardy became a Marine right out of high school. He served a few years before leaving and starting a security company with his brothers Grady and Finn. One of the people that comes in for help is their little sister’s best friend, Mandy Avery. James hasn’t seen Mandy since he left.

Now she needs their help. She felt like she was being watched. And then someone tries to run her over twice in the courthouse parking lot. Someone broke into her home and went through papers in her office. Someone is out to get her. The police don’t believe her. They think she’s just making it up for attention.

James takes the case and gives her the “friends/family” discount, which is free. He starts crashing at her place to make sure she’s safe since her apartment is a break-in waiting to happen. When he sees the outline of someone standing on her patio during a rainstorm, he decides to move her into his place until the perp is caught.

I liked this book. Mandy is definitely my favorite character. She is sassy and real. She has no overt sense of the world owing her anything. She doesn’t want to be a bother to the brothers but does feel she’s in danger. Man, does she lay into James a few times and it is funny to read what she’s saying.

I read this book in a couple sittings. I wanted to read it straight through in one but alas, tiredness won out. There’s action, adventure and intrigue in this book. The person I suspected of everything is NOT who it ended up being and it really shocked me when I found out who it really was causing all the issues!

I like the author’s writing style. There were a couple small punctuation errors but other than that, her book was perfect in editing/grammar. Everyone who’s read my reviews before knows that editing/grammar/punctuation are a huge thing to me as a bad editor can lead your book downhill. That is not the case with this book and I was glad. I have several of the next books in the series and I can’t wait to sit down and read them as well.

A Missing Heart by Shari J Ryan

a-missing-heart

Amazon Description: I’ve made mistakes. Some of those mistakes have ruined lives, including my own.

Because of this, my past is something I have kept to myself, so when I found a woman who also wanted her past to remain hidden, it felt like the universe was pushing us together.

It turns out the universe had nothing to do with that.

If a person’s past doesn’t exist, the present may not unravel the way it should.

I found out the hard way, when I learned that my wife is not who I thought she was…living with a past I should know about. Her continuous self-destructive behaviors let me know she clearly has a plan—possibly one I never should have been a part of. I keep trying to save her, but she’s making it hard.

Now, both of our pasts have simultaneously rolled into the spotlight—colliding head-on, and causing the present to come crashing down on top of us.

I learned that since our pasts are part of who we are, they will always be the foundation of our present and our future.

The question I have is, will either of us walk away in one piece?

————————————-

AJ and Cammy/Cameron are teenagers. She ends up pregnant with AJ’s child and informs him hours before the birth that she’s giving the baby up for adoption but not by her own choice. Her parents are forcing her to give the baby up. AJ is in the room for the birth. He has no say in the adoption as his name was never listed on anything and Cammy always told everyone she didn’t know whom the father was. She admitted it in the birthing room, one their daughter was born but it was too late. AJ walks out, mad at the world. Cammy is asked by the adoptive parents to name her and she names her Everything, Ever for short. There is a reason she named her this but I’m not going to spoil that part. In order to find out this reason, you’ll just have to grab the book and read it. 🙂 I promise you it is worth the price and definitely worth the time reading this emotion wrenching book.

Things come full circle but there is a LOT of stuff that happens in the thirteen years that Cammy and AJ aren’t talking or friends until she just pops up out of the blue one day.

————————————-

A Missing Heart is AJ’s story. If you’ve read A Heart of Time then you’ve already met most of the characters that pop up in this book, except a few who are new. Just like A Heart of Time, A Missing Heart will slay your emotions. While reading this book I was laughing and crying, happy and sad and angry. Shari will put you through an emotional roller coaster with this book but what a wonderful roller coaster it is and definitely one that you should take a ride on.

I love Shari’s books. That’s no secret. She will kill you emotionally while reading a book before pulling all the pieces back together. Definitely give A Missing Heart and A Heart of Time a chance and read them. Read her other works if you love these books. I promise you’ll be addicted like I am!

Gabe (Alvarez Security #1) by Maryann Jordan

gabe

Amazon Description: Former Special Forces brothers-in-arms now working together to provide an elite security service in the southern city of Richland.
Gabe Malloy, dedicated to his brothers, spent his weekends with cheap booze and easy women. When some of his friends finally settled down, he wondered if he would ever find the woman of his dreams. He just never expected to encounter her in an alley.
Jennifer Lambert worked as a social worker for the city and would often take food to the elderly residents in her building. One night, in an alley behind a restaurant, she was startled by a tall, handsome man wanting to assist. Giving him the cold shoulder, she left…but dreams of him followed her long into the night.
Gabe knew the independent Jennifer was a woman worthy of knowing, but convincing the beauty that she needed him was the challenge. Raising her young brother plus the responsibilities of the elder center, had kept her from looking for love…but she took a chance on Gabe.
Now that he found her, can he keep her safe when someone threatens her and those she loves? Calling upon his brothers, Alvarez Security races to save her before it is too late.

We first meet Gabe and some of the others while they’re on a rescue mission. Fast forward to when they’re out of the Special Forces and are in a security agency together. Each of the men that work there are alpha males but get along well with each other since most of them had served together. While providing security at an event, Gabe goes outside to get away from the starlet that had been driving him nuts. In the alley, inside the dumpster no less, he finds what he thinks is a young female but turns out she’s all woman. It’s almost instant love for him but Jennifer has different plans. She thinks of him as a giant and he thinks of her as a pixie. Which, imagining their size difference, I can see it. Lol

Jennifer is a selfless person, taking care of her younger brother and working as a social worker helping the elderly. She lives in a building which acts as a home for some of the elderly. She does what she can to help out there, take care of her brother, and handle her other cases at the DSS. Gabe begins stalking her in a way and she finally gives in and goes out with him. He knows he wants forever but is willing to take it a day at a time for her benefit.

Jennifer ends up being assaulted when it should have simply been a scare/threat to give up the building the center was in for the elderly . This along with other important parts of the book I shall not divulge leads up to interesting twists I didn’t really see coming. There were good guys I thought were bad guys and bad guys I thought were good guys!

This book has action, adventure and romance. And plot twists. Several plot twists. This was, hands down, one of the better books I have read in a while. Once I started reading, i read it all in one session. No breaks. Straight through. I couldn’t get enough of this book.

I love Jennifer. She is my kind of woman. Smart, sassy, don’t take no crap from anyone kind of woman. Gabe is a no-nonsense alpha male who finds himself accommodating himself to Jennifer’s pace and her life, including her brother who he comes to love just as much as Jennifer herself.

Some of the scenarios in this book, I can see happening in real life and I’m sure they do. Extortion, kidnapping, murder, assault. And not just the bad things either. There are the champions for the people that can’t take on their cause themselves out there.

The authors writing pulls you in from the beginning. There are a few editing errors but nothing that interrupts the flow of the story. I can see how Maryann Jordan is an award winning author and how this book. is a silver medal winner for Readers Favorites.

Definitely a book I would rate 5 stars and gladly do so.

Survive (Cascade #1) by Phil Maxey

survive

Survive is the first book in the Cascade series by author Phil Maxey. This is a dystopian, post-apocalyptic book but like no other I have read before.

Amazon Description: Being locked in a military cell was Zach’s world, until the world ended.

A group of ex-military try to survive and make sense of a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by unimaginable creatures, while dealing with their own dark pasts.

We start out with each of our heroes being released from their cells. They are in the same maximum security prison in New Mexico but from different floors. They all think it’s a joke until they realize something is horribly wrong. Abbey is the first to be release and to face her monster. Cal, Michael, Zach, Fiona and Ray make it out of the prison and to a small town after being ambushed by a “Harmadillo” as they start calling it, a cross between a horse and an armadillo.

There they find transport and a cop that is injured. He gives them some information on what is being called the “Cascade,” their term for the end of the world. He ends up joining them after they stay the night in the hotel room he had holed up in. Jacob decides to go with them and they make it to another town before they are ambushed by werewolf looking things. There they take in a kid named Dee who had been hiding in his father’s office for over a month.

It’s been just a few months shy since the shit hit the fan and they are all surviving the best they know how. When Jacob, Zach and Dee go on a run to a hardware store and Dee’s house to search for his parents, they run across a conspiracy theorist who invites them back to his house. They make it back to the office building in order to help take out a bunch of the werewolf things that had made it inside and were attacking the others. They stay at the mans house a couple nights before accepting the terms that General Trow has offered from the survival camp in Austin.

They leave the house early in order to make it to their pick up point but walk into an ambush by amphibians. Shit hits the fan and gets worse for them, loosing one of their team in the process of the pick up.

I think it’s safe to say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE dystopian and post-apocalyptic books, regardless of zombies or not. While this might be a dystopian, post apocalyptic book, it does NOT have zombies. I am loving this take on an apocalyptic world. Zombies, plagues and viruses are something that are always the reasons behind most of these types of books.

This book features a different type of apocalypse: animals evolving at rapid rates. Humans are now on the bottom of the food chain rather than at the top. It’s a refreshing take on a very active genre! I can’t wait to read the second book in this series!

While it is a good storyline and the author is good at writing, it does NEED editing. There are misplaced words, slipped words, spelling errors and a few general mistakes that need to be edited. This book just released back in August and the reviews aren’t looking good for it because of the editing issues. I think once it gets edited, then the reviews would be better. Overall a good story despite these errors.

Huck: The Montana Brothers (Mountain Men of Montana #1) by Alison Ryan

Huck is the first book in the Mountain Men of Montana series by author Alison Ryan. This is a good first book to the series and I can’t wait for more to come.

Belle Delford is on the run. From her old life. A mom she wanted to please after her father died. An abusive fiancee. And from being the bourbon princess to the Delford Distillery.

She lands in Whitmer, Montana. She at The Side Pocket which is a bar. She takes four shots of Maker’s Whiskey in less than thirty minutes. She’s handling it well until she gets up to leave. That’s when she ends up being carried to her room after she pukes on the bars floor by one of the owners, Huck. She had met him earlier when he bought her a shot of whiskey. She was mortified the next morning when she woke up and remembered what had happened.

Heading to The Waffle Hut she runs into Rick, the man who manages the bar and his nephew Hayes. Huck walks in shortly after Rick insists that Belle join them. She is very uncomfortable the whole time. From the time that Huck had bought her a shot, he had been really distant and kind of an asshole already. Belle decided she was going to pack up and keep going until she found another freeway rest stop town.

Only one problem. She had been cut off. Her mother turned off all her cards. She had a note waiting back at the hotel on her door. It wasn’t until they ran another card that she knew she’d been cut off. She was in deep water. No gas in her car. No money. No home. She ends up across the street at the bar and spilling her guts to Rick. He comes up with a suggestion. They’re looking for another bartender and he offers her the job.

Huck doesn’t think she’ll make it. He challenges her on the best and worst whiskey they have and she shows him up on her knowledge of it. (I kinda really loved this scene.) He decides to give her a chance seeing as he owns the bar.

Let’s just say, I love the dysfunctional part of them until he comes to his senses. When that happens, everything goes fast. Only there’s a few issues that arise before the end of the book. (I loved one scene very much and if you read this book, you should be able to figure it out.)

—————

I think Alison Ryan has a knack for writing about hot guys and their feisty females. Her words blend seamlessly together. My favorite character has to be Huck. He’s hot, brooding and will fight anyone who messes with his staff or patrons of the bar.

The world Alison creates is believable. I could easily see this whole book unfolding in real life.

Happy release week. This book was just released on the 20th.

Atlas (Billionaire Titans #1) by Alison Ryan

Atlas is the first book in the Billionaire Titans series by author Alison Ryan. I came across the second book, Odin, on a free list yesterday so I purchased this book for 99 cents to start the series. I am not disappointed that I did.

Atlas Titan is  ex-SEAL. His father, Emerson Titan, had a wicked obsession with mythology naming him Titan and his brother Odin. Emerson hasn’t been married since his last wife died. But he had a step-daughter from a previous marriage he always kept in contact with since she was the closest thing to a daughter he had. She’s in some serious trouble and Emerson is enlisting the help of Titan to help save her.

Only thing is, none of them know how deep Piper’s problems go. Pipers ex-boyfriend is a senator. He has deep connections. It isn’t until Atlas and Piper are at the hotel when he learns her ex’s name. He knows they’re in deep shit and it’s only going to get worse from there. He has a history with her ex and knows that the endgame is all about him and not her.

They end up moving around the world, thinking they were safe. Which is far from the truth. They end up drugged and kidnapped before being taken before Atlas’ old boss, QB. Atlas is issued an ultimatum to either kill his father or Piper will die, then his father, then him. He’s between a rock and a hard place.

The story gets more interesting from there. There’s crashing, new identities, wolf dogs, an island and attacks. This book has romance, hot steamy sex, danger, intrigue and more. I like the characters. I could easily see a situation like in this book happening in real life. Alison Ryan is a good author.

The book is 214 pages. The story is so good that it honestly felt longer than that! That tells me, that for me at least, it is a good book. I am always wanting books to be longer than they are. That is no different than this one but I’m happy with where it left off. I can’t wait to dig into the second book later tonight!

Lowlife (Bottom Feeder #2) by Maria G. Cope

lowlife

Lowlife is the second book in the Bottom Feeder series by author Maria G. Cope. The first book, Bottom Feeder, has also been reviewed on my blog.

Maddy, Dom, Jackson, Dixon and more return in the second and final installment of the Bottom Feeder series. Maddy has enlisted in the Army. After her basic training is finished, she’s shipped to Fort Bragg, which is where Dom, Jackson and others from the first book are stationed. Dom and Maddy have been together a year now and Jackson doesn’t like it. He’s realized that he loves Maddy and wants her but won’t encroach on a friend’s girl, even if he is the reason they met in the first place.

Cordell Carrington is missing. The FBI agent that Maddy is working with, wants to use her as bait. She will only agree if he can find the location of Kevin Underwood, her real father. He agrees to try and find him. Again, at this point I still didn’t trust Alexander Mace/Suit.

Her and Dom end up splitting up on the night of his twenty-first birthday because he got so smashed and was found with two other girls. Maddy had a surprise ready for him. She grabs her stuff from the room, while he’s in there with the two girls and leaves. Jackson hops in the car with her and goes with her to the hotel she had gotten. He ends up leaving when she requests him too. Noone says anything to her when she gets back to the rental beach house or on the way back to the barracks in Fort Bragg.

Before the end of the book, action ramps up ten fold. Cordell returns to the states and actually corners Jackson in his car. Before it’s all said and done: Dixon ends up kidnapped, Sean Morris ends up zip-tied to the bathroom sink and Jackson’s father returns as one of Cordell’s lackeys. There are so many things that happen that these don’t surprise me! The outcome of a few things DOES surprise me.

This book was better than the first in my opinion. I laughed and cried reading this book. Especially over some deaths that occurred that I didn’t see coming. I still don’t trust Alexander Mace even though he got what he wanted. While these two books make up the Bottom Feeder series and their stories are over, they will appear in another series once it is released. The new series was set to be released between Winter 2016 and Winter 2016 so we can still see the new series start before the end of the year.

I can’t wait for the new series to start. While it doesn’t directly follow the characters from this series, it does have to do with the gang that Maddy’s real father was a part of so we might learn more about him and his past in the upcoming series.

Bottom Feeder by Maria G. Cope

bottom feeder

Bottom Feeder is a book written by author Maria G. Cope. The cover caught by attention but the story inside sucked me in. This book will put you through an emotional roller coaster: happy sad, pissed, ready to kill and content. Maria Cope is an author that is new to me and I am very happy that I picked up this book and gave it a chance!

Maddy Carrington is seventeen years old and a graduate of high school. Her best friend, Dixon, is around a lot. Her father is throwing a graduation party, not just for her but for all the graduates. In other words, he wants to show off which he does well. Jackson, Violet’s son, is back home from the war. Jackson accompanies Violet to the party where Cordell Carrington steals Jackson away for a few minutes to talk cars and hint about a deal. Maddy walks down to the dock where they’re talking and interrupts before anything can get too far into the conversation.

Jackson returns to the Carrington house the next morning to speak with Cordell and find out what kind of deal he has in mind for Jackson to obtain the Barracuda. On the surface, the deal seems legit but Cordell leaves underlying threats in the mix. All Jackson has to do is escort Maddy to New York and act like he’s interested in her during the week before she leaves. That’s it. Simple. Only Maddy isn’t Jackson’s type of girl. Maddy is thick and not the scrawny type he normally goes after.

Things are okay between them until they get to NC for a few days before continuing on to New York. Maddy stays in a hotel while Jackson is in his barracks. On a Friday, Jackson sends Dominick Beraz to go get Maddy’s luggage to have it there at the barracks in her car ready to go. Beraz promises to come back later and get her, which he does. They end up going out on a date since it’s her eighteenth birthday. He draws her a gorgeous picture that goes along with some of the things they talked about. Dom and Maddy end up becoming a couple.

Things get a whole hell of a lot worse before the end of the book. With the way it was left off, I expect the second book to be a whole lot worse than this book was!

I loved Maddy from the beginning. She’s a character that most can love. She will protect anyone she loves even if it means endangering herself and letting harm come to herself to keep them safe, which she proves multiple times in the book. Cordell Carrington, didn’t like him from the start or Larry Duvall either. Jackson, I’m still iffy on.

Like I said above, this book will have you on an emotional roller coaster ride. I cried, laughed, was happy and sad while reading this book. It will make you feel things you don’t want too. You can’t help but love some of the characters as you’re reading this book. I would highly recommend this book to other readers!

Billion Dollar Bad Boy (Big City Billionaires) by Nora Flite

Billion Dollar Bad Boy

Alexis Willow is a secretary of sorts at a fashion magazine. She makes enough to make ends meet and is happy with her job. Although she does tend to be paranoid but with her past, it’s understandable. Five years ago she was ready to go to college, move to LA and work as a fashion designer. But things go to hell one day when she’s at the bank. A man comes in and instead of actually robbing the place, he has an employee plug in a USB flash drive that uploads malware but they don’t know that’s what it does.

Alexis doesn’t end up moving to LA or becoming a fashion designer. She doesn’t think she’d make it anyways so is happy where she’s at. Until she starts getting mysterious packages in her post office box. It starts with a pair of emerald earrings with silver surroundings and a cryptic message by S. Every day for a couple weeks she finds a wrapped box in her mailbox. None of the packages have any markings on them so someone is placing them in her mailbox. Each package contains a letter and an extravagant gift. The letters are always addressed to Pet.

She thinks she’s receiving the packages by mistake until she gets to work one day and mysteriously there are cupcakes and she finds one on her desk with another mysterious letter. It’s finally time she meets the mysterious S.

———————————————-

I absolutely loved this book. I was so entranced I read it until almost 4 am and then sat down to finish it as soon as my daughter left for school! I just really could not get enough of this book! Nora Flite is a new to me author. The Amazon book description captured my interest after the cover captured my eye. I was entranced with the story from the first page to the last.

Nora Flite is a USA Bestselling Author and I can definitely understand why after reading this book. Her characters are believable and well-rounded. The story is not rushed at all. I would LOVE to see a series made out of this following some of the other characters before, during and after this book.
