Description: The price of survival…

Gabriel Miller swept into my life like a storm. He tore down my father with cold retribution, leaving him penniless in a hospital bed. I quit my private all-girl’s college to take care of the only family I have left.

There’s one way to save our house, one thing I have left of value.

My virginity.

A forbidden auction…

Gabriel appears at every turn. He seems to take pleasure in watching me fall. Other times he’s the only kindness in a brutal underworld.

Except he’s playing a deeper game than I know. Every move brings us together, every secret rips us apart. And when the final piece is played, only one of us can be left standing.

Avery is a young woman who is dealing with the fallout of her father’s scandal, court case and subsequent beating that’s left him immobile. They are broke and she’s sold off everything in the house that was of value to pay for her father’s in home care. She needs money so she goes to someone she believes was involved with her father’s beating, but she has no choice.

They come to terms of having an auction for the only thing she has that’s worth anything: her virginity. The winner of the auction will have her for 30 days: morning, noon and night. To have their way with her within reason.

Gabriel is the one who wins the auction, bidding an exorbitant amount, wanting to make sure he was the winner. Avery knows he had something to do with her father’s beating. She learns just how deep his hate for her father goes and that it’s spilled over to her to further humiliate and diminish her family name.

This book was hot, dark and ah-mazing. I was entranced from the first page and didn’t want to stop until I was finished with it. Skye Warren has a way with words and I can definitely see why she is a bestselling author! I figured out a couple things during the story but man she threw in a couple twists that I WASN’T expecting! The only thing I didn’t like very much, which a lot of readers don’t, is that it ends in a cliffhanger. But I’m okay with it because i did love the story before the cliffhanger blindsided me!

Thank you to my friend who gifted me a copy of this book hoping I would love it as much as she did!

Mobster’s Girl (Mobster’s #1) by Amy Rachiele

Mobster's Girl (Mobster's Series Book 1) by [Rachiele, Amy]

Title: Mobster’s Girl (Mobster’s #1)

Author: Amy Rachiele

Release Date: June 13, 2012

Price: Free on Kindle $9.99 Paperback $1.99 Audible

Description: Gripping my chest is the only way to hold myself together or what’s left of me will fall out. The past week has enlightened me on one thing-I don’t care.
Megan, Mobster’s Girl

I didn’t even hesitate. I took two strides and blasted him in the face with my fist. He was ready for it this time-unlike in church. He tried to hit me back but I ducked and smashed him again.
Antonio, Mobster’s Girl

You can’t help what family you’re born into or what lies they keep from you. You can’t help it if they mold and shape you just the way they wanted. Are monsters born or made?

Antonio and Megan have a timeless issue. They were told to stay away from each other. They try, they really do. But they are drawn to each other.

Antonio is eighteen and the up and coming mob boss of Palmetto, New Jersey. Megan is a girl uprooted from the grassy plains of Ireland at the age of five. Now she’s seventeen and faced with horrors she never thought existed.

Megan is seventeen and her best friend is Troy and is in her last year of high school while Troy is starting college. Antonio is eighteen and in his last year of high school as well. Antonio has liked Megan for years, since they were kids. His father warned him off of being friends with her or trying to date her.

This book is decent. I liked the story line but thought there could have been more to the story. This book is 230 pages long but I thought some more background or more buildup would have been good for it.

The characters are typical characters for the world the author has created. I’m not sure how I feel about a couple characters but I do like Megan and Antonio.

Overall, 3.5*’s for this book.

Nick (Bad Boys for Hire #3) by Rachelle Ayala

This Christmas, paraplegic Carol Cassidy is caught between the naughty and the nice: a hired Santa and a disabled firefighter.

Carol was an avid mountain climber until an accident left her in a wheelchair. Love is the last thing on her mind until she hires Nick to play Santa. Shocked at the sensations he elicits, she resists him and decides to date a good guy.

Nick is drawn to Carol like a magnet to iron, and he sets out to prove that bad boys who hire themselves out can be good boys, too—especially in bed.

Carol discovers she’s not dead to passion, but when Nick’s dirty laundry is aired, she regrets choosing the naughty over the nice. Will the spirit of Christmas teach her that sometimes, a huge lump of coal can turn into the brightest diamond of love?

Bad Boys for Hire are fun and exciting stories where love is unexpected, but always delicious. They can be read standalone, but for greater enjoyment, please be sure to check out the other books in the series.

Available to buy from….
Kindle   Barnes and Noble   Paperback

I loved reading this book. Carol is an incomplete paraplegic. Nick works at Bad Boys for Hire and is contracted to work as a Santa Claus for an event that Carol is putting on. Upon him walking into the bar that is the venue, they are attracted to each other. However, Carol protests his cocky, arrogant, self-assured attitude and wants to fire him. With not enough time for hiring a new Santa, they have to stick with him, much to her dismay.

Nick takes it upon himself to find out what Carol’s wish is during the event and she wants him to follow someone around all day so that he can learn what it’s like for someone in a wheelchair. They don’t need the pity and all the help that a lot of people offer or force upon them. They are just like normal people only they have to have a different way of doing normal things and may take longer.

Honestly, I did NOT like Nick at the beginning of the book. He was my least favorite character at the beginning and I just wanted to reach through the computer screen I was reading on and deck him. Since that wasn’t possible, I settled for strangling him in my imagination. LOL. Carol had her ups and downs on me liking her through the book. She was a strong character in most parts but had spots where I didn’t think her attitude fit her character but I understand why those spots were necessary.

Overall, I would give this book 4.5/5 stars. It is definitely one of the better books I’ve read this year. I love that the author went with a female lead that wasn’t a model/damsel-in-distress and that she had a disability. I really like that the author focused on some spots on different things that could help those that are in wheelchairs and some of them actually made sense.

While this is book three in the Bad Boys for Hire series, you do not need to read the books in order.

Huck: The Montana Brothers (Mountain Men of Montana #1) by Alison Ryan

Huck is the first book in the Mountain Men of Montana series by author Alison Ryan. This is a good first book to the series and I can’t wait for more to come.

Belle Delford is on the run. From her old life. A mom she wanted to please after her father died. An abusive fiancee. And from being the bourbon princess to the Delford Distillery.

She lands in Whitmer, Montana. She at The Side Pocket which is a bar. She takes four shots of Maker’s Whiskey in less than thirty minutes. She’s handling it well until she gets up to leave. That’s when she ends up being carried to her room after she pukes on the bars floor by one of the owners, Huck. She had met him earlier when he bought her a shot of whiskey. She was mortified the next morning when she woke up and remembered what had happened.

Heading to The Waffle Hut she runs into Rick, the man who manages the bar and his nephew Hayes. Huck walks in shortly after Rick insists that Belle join them. She is very uncomfortable the whole time. From the time that Huck had bought her a shot, he had been really distant and kind of an asshole already. Belle decided she was going to pack up and keep going until she found another freeway rest stop town.

Only one problem. She had been cut off. Her mother turned off all her cards. She had a note waiting back at the hotel on her door. It wasn’t until they ran another card that she knew she’d been cut off. She was in deep water. No gas in her car. No money. No home. She ends up across the street at the bar and spilling her guts to Rick. He comes up with a suggestion. They’re looking for another bartender and he offers her the job.

Huck doesn’t think she’ll make it. He challenges her on the best and worst whiskey they have and she shows him up on her knowledge of it. (I kinda really loved this scene.) He decides to give her a chance seeing as he owns the bar.

Let’s just say, I love the dysfunctional part of them until he comes to his senses. When that happens, everything goes fast. Only there’s a few issues that arise before the end of the book. (I loved one scene very much and if you read this book, you should be able to figure it out.)

I think Alison Ryan has a knack for writing about hot guys and their feisty females. Her words blend seamlessly together. My favorite character has to be Huck. He’s hot, brooding and will fight anyone who messes with his staff or patrons of the bar.

The world Alison creates is believable. I could easily see this whole book unfolding in real life.

Happy release week. This book was just released on the 20th.

A Heart of Time by Shari J. Ryan

A heart of timeWe start out the book with Hunter and Ellie on the way to the hospital. Ellie is in labor. Once they get there and confirm she’s in labor, things begin to go wrong. First, the baby’s heartrate drops and then Ellie feels as if something is wrong. They take Ellie to the delivery room but have to do an emergency c-section on her so Hunter is kicked out of the room. Finally, a nurse comes out and takes him to the nursery where Olive is getting some extra oxygen since the umbilical cord had been wrapped around her neck.

Hunter barges into the operating room that Ellie was in, in time to hear the doctor call her time of death. This absolutely DEVASTATES him. He begs and pleads with Ellie’s body for her to come back and to no avail. He just had the best and worst day in his life. Flash forward five years.

Olive is five and it’s her first day of Kindergarten. Hunter keeps getting mysterious notes from the recipient of Ellie’s heart that she donated on that fateful day. Both he and Olive always look forward to them. The person is mysterious and always eludes them when they drop the letters off.

When he takes Olive to the bus stop, he ends up breaking down after she’s on the bus. Charlotte, a fellow parent and also neighbor, checks on him and they end up talking until he has to go to work with his brother AJ.

Things quickly get complicated when Ari is thrown into the picture. I just didn’t realize how complicated things would get!

I absolutely LOVED this book. This book will have you on an emotional roller coaster ride. I was crying, sobbing, laughing, mad and happy. I just wanted to reach through my Kindle screen and knock some sense into Charlotte, Hunter and Ari. They all needed it knocked into them. Lol.

The first part of the story where they are in the labor room hits home with me. I was in a similar situation with the cord being wrapped around my daughter’s neck. Had her heart rate not come up when it had, I would have been having an emergency c-section so that part hit real close to home.

I’ve spent some time thinking about this book since I finished it and I would LOVE for there to be a follow up book to follow Lana, Olive and Ashley.

This book is now available on Amazon for 99 cents.

It is 250 pages.

Lowlife (Bottom Feeder #2) by Maria G. Cope

Lowlife is the second book in the Bottom Feeder series by author Maria G. Cope. The first book, Bottom Feeder, has also been reviewed on my blog.

Maddy, Dom, Jackson, Dixon and more return in the second and final installment of the Bottom Feeder series. Maddy has enlisted in the Army. After her basic training is finished, she’s shipped to Fort Bragg, which is where Dom, Jackson and others from the first book are stationed. Dom and Maddy have been together a year now and Jackson doesn’t like it. He’s realized that he loves Maddy and wants her but won’t encroach on a friend’s girl, even if he is the reason they met in the first place.

Cordell Carrington is missing. The FBI agent that Maddy is working with, wants to use her as bait. She will only agree if he can find the location of Kevin Underwood, her real father. He agrees to try and find him. Again, at this point I still didn’t trust Alexander Mace/Suit.

Her and Dom end up splitting up on the night of his twenty-first birthday because he got so smashed and was found with two other girls. Maddy had a surprise ready for him. She grabs her stuff from the room, while he’s in there with the two girls and leaves. Jackson hops in the car with her and goes with her to the hotel she had gotten. He ends up leaving when she requests him too. Noone says anything to her when she gets back to the rental beach house or on the way back to the barracks in Fort Bragg.

Before the end of the book, action ramps up ten fold. Cordell returns to the states and actually corners Jackson in his car. Before it’s all said and done: Dixon ends up kidnapped, Sean Morris ends up zip-tied to the bathroom sink and Jackson’s father returns as one of Cordell’s lackeys. There are so many things that happen that these don’t surprise me! The outcome of a few things DOES surprise me.

This book was better than the first in my opinion. I laughed and cried reading this book. Especially over some deaths that occurred that I didn’t see coming. I still don’t trust Alexander Mace even though he got what he wanted. While these two books make up the Bottom Feeder series and their stories are over, they will appear in another series once it is released. The new series was set to be released between Winter 2016 and Winter 2016 so we can still see the new series start before the end of the year.

I can’t wait for the new series to start. While it doesn’t directly follow the characters from this series, it does have to do with the gang that Maddy’s real father was a part of so we might learn more about him and his past in the upcoming series.

Bottom Feeder by Maria G. Cope

bottom feeder

Bottom Feeder is a book written by author Maria G. Cope. The cover caught by attention but the story inside sucked me in. This book will put you through an emotional roller coaster: happy sad, pissed, ready to kill and content. Maria Cope is an author that is new to me and I am very happy that I picked up this book and gave it a chance!

Maddy Carrington is seventeen years old and a graduate of high school. Her best friend, Dixon, is around a lot. Her father is throwing a graduation party, not just for her but for all the graduates. In other words, he wants to show off which he does well. Jackson, Violet’s son, is back home from the war. Jackson accompanies Violet to the party where Cordell Carrington steals Jackson away for a few minutes to talk cars and hint about a deal. Maddy walks down to the dock where they’re talking and interrupts before anything can get too far into the conversation.

Jackson returns to the Carrington house the next morning to speak with Cordell and find out what kind of deal he has in mind for Jackson to obtain the Barracuda. On the surface, the deal seems legit but Cordell leaves underlying threats in the mix. All Jackson has to do is escort Maddy to New York and act like he’s interested in her during the week before she leaves. That’s it. Simple. Only Maddy isn’t Jackson’s type of girl. Maddy is thick and not the scrawny type he normally goes after.

Things are okay between them until they get to NC for a few days before continuing on to New York. Maddy stays in a hotel while Jackson is in his barracks. On a Friday, Jackson sends Dominick Beraz to go get Maddy’s luggage to have it there at the barracks in her car ready to go. Beraz promises to come back later and get her, which he does. They end up going out on a date since it’s her eighteenth birthday. He draws her a gorgeous picture that goes along with some of the things they talked about. Dom and Maddy end up becoming a couple.

Things get a whole hell of a lot worse before the end of the book. With the way it was left off, I expect the second book to be a whole lot worse than this book was!

I loved Maddy from the beginning. She’s a character that most can love. She will protect anyone she loves even if it means endangering herself and letting harm come to herself to keep them safe, which she proves multiple times in the book. Cordell Carrington, didn’t like him from the start or Larry Duvall either. Jackson, I’m still iffy on.

Like I said above, this book will have you on an emotional roller coaster ride. I cried, laughed, was happy and sad while reading this book. It will make you feel things you don’t want too. You can’t help but love some of the characters as you’re reading this book. I would highly recommend this book to other readers!

Billion Dollar Bad Boy (Big City Billionaires) by Nora Flite

Billion Dollar Bad Boy

Alexis Willow is a secretary of sorts at a fashion magazine. She makes enough to make ends meet and is happy with her job. Although she does tend to be paranoid but with her past, it’s understandable. Five years ago she was ready to go to college, move to LA and work as a fashion designer. But things go to hell one day when she’s at the bank. A man comes in and instead of actually robbing the place, he has an employee plug in a USB flash drive that uploads malware but they don’t know that’s what it does.

Alexis doesn’t end up moving to LA or becoming a fashion designer. She doesn’t think she’d make it anyways so is happy where she’s at. Until she starts getting mysterious packages in her post office box. It starts with a pair of emerald earrings with silver surroundings and a cryptic message by S. Every day for a couple weeks she finds a wrapped box in her mailbox. None of the packages have any markings on them so someone is placing them in her mailbox. Each package contains a letter and an extravagant gift. The letters are always addressed to Pet.

She thinks she’s receiving the packages by mistake until she gets to work one day and mysteriously there are cupcakes and she finds one on her desk with another mysterious letter. It’s finally time she meets the mysterious S.

I absolutely loved this book. I was so entranced I read it until almost 4 am and then sat down to finish it as soon as my daughter left for school! I just really could not get enough of this book! Nora Flite is a new to me author. The Amazon book description captured my interest after the cover captured my eye. I was entranced with the story from the first page to the last.

Nora Flite is a USA Bestselling Author and I can definitely understand why after reading this book. Her characters are believable and well-rounded. The story is not rushed at all. I would LOVE to see a series made out of this following some of the other characters before, during and after this book.

The Wrath of Cain (The Syndicate #1) by Kathy Coopmans

Wrath of Cain

The Wrath of Cain is the first book in the Syndicate series by Author Kathy Coopmans.

Cain and Calla have went and eloped in order to get around both of their fathers. Calla’s dad and Cain’s dad absolutely hate each other over something that happened in high school and a few years after. Calla’s dad tells her that she’s no longer part of the family because she knew how he felt about Cain. Cain’s father is the President of an MC and had been grooming Cain to take over one day. Only, he’s lied to Cain about the MC the entire time, telling him they were a legit club and didn’t do anything illegal.

When Cain goes to tell his father about him and Calla being married, his father drops the bombshell on him about the real activities the club does and that he’s in danger and now Calla will be too. Cain decides the only way to keep her safe is to keep her away from him so when she lets him know she’s on the way to the compound, he ends up in bed with Emerald, a girl who everyone knows wants him. Calla walks in to see it. She ends up in Canada and doesn’t return for six years.

She returns only because she wants a divorce but things really don’t go her way once she gets to the compound. She finds out that Cain has taken over, his father was murdered as well as his step-mom and she eventually learns a shit ton load of more stuff that would honestly break most people but she takes it in stride. Things gets a hell of a lot worse before they get better for anyone.

I loved reading this book. I couldn’t get enough and was hooked from the first page! Kathy Coopmans is a new to me author and I am definitely going to be recommending her to fellow readers. This book has love, angst, hate, crime, passion, family…..things that make a book an awesome read. Cain, Calla and the other characters are well developed. I like how the story progresses. It isn’t rushed and doesn’t feel all over the place.

Tackled: A Sports Romance by Sabrina Paige

Tackled is a football themed sports romance by author Sabrina Paige. I’m going to be hyper-critical of this book because it is so similar to another book I have read, #Nerd.

Cassie is the hot-librarian/nerd that is hired to tutor football star Colton King. Colton King is a cocky, arrogant SOB who thinks every female wants him. Cassie is a twenty-three year old virgin. They end up bantering back and forth and having a hot/cold relationship before they finally give in and let the cards fall where they may.

Here come the comparisons/hyper-criticalisms:

  1. Rimmel (#Nerd) and Cassie (Tackled) are both hot nerds that play down their looks, not caring what someone else thinks.
  2. Romeo (#Nerd) and Colton (Tackled) are both football stars that need help in the academic world.
  3. They are both assigned to the nerds and think they can bang them right away.
  4. Both girls refuse to give in to the boys right away.
  5. Both boys are cocky and arrogant.
  6. The roommates/best friends of the girls push them towards the said cocky, arrogant football stars.
  7. Roommates/best friends end up with said football stars friends/teammates.
  8. There is the one player that wants to ruin everything.
  9. The football stars mom’s meddle in their business. (One trying to break them apart and another pushing them together.)
  10. Girls are assaulted by said players who want to ruin everything.

There are a few more similarities but I think you get the jest. With this book being a lot like Cambria Hebert’s #Nerd (and parts from other books as well!), I just couldn’t get real excited about this book once I started reading it.

Please read both books for yourself before deciding for yourself.
