Amnesia (Centrifuge Duet #1) by Kylie Hillman

Amnesia (Centrifuge Duet Book 1) by [Hillman, Kylie]

Amnesia is the first book in the Centrifuge Duet series which is a psychological thriller by author Kylie Hillman. This book just released on February 25th.

Blurb

PLEASE NOTE: This book is a dark psychological thriller. Due to potentially triggering content, it is not suitable for all readers.

Dr. Jaxon Ray has only ever wanted one woman. He’s loved her from afar since their Junior School days, worshiping the ground she walks on, intent on having her for his own when the time is right.

Amber St. George isn’t interested in the trappings that come with her family’s wealth. A simple life as a teacher at an under-privileged school, a comfortable home with her lover, and good friends; that’s all she desires.

Once Jax decides it’s time to take what’s his, Amber finds herself at the mercy of a madman. A sociopath with access to the latest neurological advancements, who possesses the ability to use her own mind to keep her captive. Programmed to forget. Reprogrammed as her captor’s perfect partner. Amber’s left with medically-induced amnesia and no idea that she’s in for the fight of her life.

When the people who know you’re missing aren’t on your side, and the love of your life has been led to believe that you’ve turned your back on him, is rescue possible? When you can’t remember the real you, is escape even on the cards?

This story unfolds over two installments, approximately 45 – 50,000 words each.
The second installment, Exodus, will be available on March 28, 2017.

Oh man. This book has left with me a hangover headache after reading it.  Jaxon Ray is a neurosurgeon who has helped perfect his grandfather’s amnesia/dementia repair drug, only HIS drug steals memories rather than restoring them. And he only ones to steal one womans memories and replace them with made up ones.

Amber is a thirty year old teacher. She was engaged to Xander. On the way to meet Xander, before going to see their wedding planner, she is hit by another car, requiring her to go to the hospital. Jaxon does surgery on her to help “minimize” her memory loss from her amnesia and is giving her daily injections of Centrifuge. The dosages become more frequent as she starts remembering things and he’s not happy about it.

Jaxon is one depraved dude in my opinion. I think Amber did the right thing by playing things out the way she did and the going was good while it lasted. I can’t wait to read the second book to see how Jaxon and Amber’s story ends. I started reading this book and read it in one sitting! I just did not and would not put it down until I finished it!

This book will have triggers in it for some men and women so it is NOT a book for all people. I’ve read two of Kylie’s other books but this one is on a whole other level with how demented/depraved the main male character is.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book to readers who do not have triggers and to those same readers who can handle most generalized triggers.

The Pawn by [Warren, Skye]

Title: The Pawn (Endgame #1)

Author: Skye Warren

Release Date: 12/6/16

Price: 99 cents on Kindle $9.99 Paperback

Description: The price of survival…

Gabriel Miller swept into my life like a storm. He tore down my father with cold retribution, leaving him penniless in a hospital bed. I quit my private all-girl’s college to take care of the only family I have left.

There’s one way to save our house, one thing I have left of value.

My virginity.

A forbidden auction…

Gabriel appears at every turn. He seems to take pleasure in watching me fall. Other times he’s the only kindness in a brutal underworld.

Except he’s playing a deeper game than I know. Every move brings us together, every secret rips us apart. And when the final piece is played, only one of us can be left standing.

Avery is a young woman who is dealing with the fallout of her father’s scandal, court case and subsequent beating that’s left him immobile. They are broke and she’s sold off everything in the house that was of value to pay for her father’s in home care. She needs money so she goes to someone she believes was involved with her father’s beating, but she has no choice.

They come to terms of having an auction for the only thing she has that’s worth anything: her virginity. The winner of the auction will have her for 30 days: morning, noon and night. To have their way with her within reason.

Gabriel is the one who wins the auction, bidding an exorbitant amount, wanting to make sure he was the winner. Avery knows he had something to do with her father’s beating. She learns just how deep his hate for her father goes and that it’s spilled over to her to further humiliate and diminish her family name.

This book was hot, dark and ah-mazing. I was entranced from the first page and didn’t want to stop until I was finished with it. Skye Warren has a way with words and I can definitely see why she is a bestselling author! I figured out a couple things during the story but man she threw in a couple twists that I WASN’T expecting! The only thing I didn’t like very much, which a lot of readers don’t, is that it ends in a cliffhanger. But I’m okay with it because i did love the story before the cliffhanger blindsided me!

Thank you to my friend who gifted me a copy of this book hoping I would love it as much as she did!

Carnival of Darkness (FaeTAL #1) by Becca Moree

Carnival of Darkness (FaeTAL Series Book 1) by [Moree, Becca]

Title: Carnival of Darkness (FaeTAL #1)

Author: Becca Moree

Price: Free on Kindle $5.99 Paperback

Release Date: July 14, 2016

Description: Brett sold his soul to the devil. Only hell isn’t a fiery pit in the bowels of the earth. Hell is the Carnival of Darkness where the freak shows are real, the screams never end, and the girl of his dreams has become a part of his nightmare.

Charlee has been kidnapped by the freaks that run The Carnival of Darkness. If that weren’t bad enough, she’s harboring a secret that will put her life in even more danger should her captors find out. Now, she has a decision to make – keep her head down and wait on someone to save her, or fight to escape and get back to the ones she left behind.

Brett wants to trust Charlee with the reason he is working at the carnival, but she still has reservations about his intentions. Charlee doesn’t trust anyone, but Brett may be her only hope.

WARNING: This circus and the carnies within are FREAKS with extremely dirty mouths and minds that some may find offensive. COD is filled with dark, demented, horrific, depraved and disturbing things. If you aren’t into paranormal creatures as well as a bit of blood, guts and taboo things this book is not for you! (Trigger Warning)

Oh man. This book. It is DARK and demented. It is definitely NOT for the faint hearted or those that have trigger warnings such as abuse, rape and the like. I think Charlee is my favorite character outside Brett so far. She’s a strong woman who will do anything to protect her daughter’s life and secret while protecting her own secret as well.

The guys at the C.o.D are definitely freaks, minus Brett. I honestly think he’s going to have psychological damage going into the next book after everything he’s been through that we’ve read about in the book plus stuff we don’t know about!

I would highly recommend this book to those that like dark reads. My only issue with the book is that it’s so short at only 106 pages! 4*’s solid!

Mobster’s Girl (Mobster’s #1) by Amy Rachiele

Mobster's Girl (Mobster's Series Book 1) by [Rachiele, Amy]

Title: Mobster’s Girl (Mobster’s #1)

Author: Amy Rachiele

Release Date: June 13, 2012

Price: Free on Kindle $9.99 Paperback $1.99 Audible

Description: Gripping my chest is the only way to hold myself together or what’s left of me will fall out. The past week has enlightened me on one thing-I don’t care.
Megan, Mobster’s Girl

I didn’t even hesitate. I took two strides and blasted him in the face with my fist. He was ready for it this time-unlike in church. He tried to hit me back but I ducked and smashed him again.
Antonio, Mobster’s Girl

You can’t help what family you’re born into or what lies they keep from you. You can’t help it if they mold and shape you just the way they wanted. Are monsters born or made?

Antonio and Megan have a timeless issue. They were told to stay away from each other. They try, they really do. But they are drawn to each other.

Antonio is eighteen and the up and coming mob boss of Palmetto, New Jersey. Megan is a girl uprooted from the grassy plains of Ireland at the age of five. Now she’s seventeen and faced with horrors she never thought existed.

Megan is seventeen and her best friend is Troy and is in her last year of high school while Troy is starting college. Antonio is eighteen and in his last year of high school as well. Antonio has liked Megan for years, since they were kids. His father warned him off of being friends with her or trying to date her.

This book is decent. I liked the story line but thought there could have been more to the story. This book is 230 pages long but I thought some more background or more buildup would have been good for it.

The characters are typical characters for the world the author has created. I’m not sure how I feel about a couple characters but I do like Megan and Antonio.

Overall, 3.5*’s for this book.

Her: Possibly a stalker.

Dani just learned her boyfriend was cheating on her and used money he borrowed from her to pay for the new girls ring. Andie, Dani’s best friend, drags her out after deleting his number from her phone. At the bar, Dani gets nice and drunk and through persuasion, was going to send raunchy texts to Daryl to make him regret what he did. Only thing was, she couldn’t fully remember his number. Enter the start of the wrong texting conversation.

I absolutely FLOVED this book. A fellow blogger and reader gifted me a copy to show appreciation for me following and interacting on their page which was really sweet and totally awesome of her. As soon as I accepted it, I sat down and started reading it. I read it until 3 am when I FINISHED it. I just couldn’t go to bed without finishing this book it was that good.

I love the characters. They are totally normal everyday people that you could find just by looking around you. The explosive nature of some of them is totally awesome. I love the text messages that go back and forth between Dani and Ram. I really love teh banter back and forth between Andie and Roman on whose trying to insult the other more. Andie sure is a spitfire and totally badass. I’m most like Dani I think. Not many boyfriends, having caught some cheating. However, I have never texted a wrong number. And man if only real life turned out like this book I would grab my phone and send a message to a random number and just hope it was a guy on the other end. LOL

This book will have you needing a change of panties several times while reading it. I would suggest waiting until the end of the book otherwise you’re going to go through several pairs of panties before it’s over with. 😉

K Webster and J.D. Hollyfield are both new authors to me. And they will now be on my favorite authors list. This book was OMG worthy. I can’t wait for the next book which follows Andie and Roman. This is definitely a 5* read. I would love to see this book made into a movie!!

Final Target (Dublin Mafia: Triskelion Team #1) by Zara Keane

Final Target (Dublin Mafia: Triskelion Team, Book 1) by [Keane, Zara]

Title: Final Target

Series: Dublin Mafia: Triskelion Team #1

Author Zara Keane

Release Date: March 14, 2016

Price: $3.99 Kindle/ Free KU $12.99 Paperback

Description: As a final job for his mob boss uncle, Lar Delaney agrees to eliminate one last target. Through the crosshairs of his sniper rifle, he realizes that his target is a former girlfriend—a woman who supposedly died five years previously.
Moira Collins is an intelligence agent whose cover has been shot to smithereens. When she finds herself on the wrong side of an assassin’s rifle, she’s appalled to recognize the only mark she ever let herself fall in love with.

Moira works for MI6. She had been undercover in Boston to try and find out if there were secrets being sold between the American and Irish communities concerning governments. Without knowing that her life would be in danger later, she was pulled a day before the pub she had been working at was shot up, resulting in several deaths.

On a leave of absence from MI6, Moira heads to Ireland where she decides to infiltrate Frank Delaney’s club to find information on the bombing that killed her mother, father and brothers. She knows her sister was alive and working in Ireland as a private investigator. She enlists the help of her sister who is very apprehensive about her showing up and not wanting to believe that they’re actually related at first.

Things go from bad to worse before the end of the book. I did NOT see the end of the book coming at all. There were several things I didn’t suspect in here.

Zara Keane is a new to me author. I happened to grab this book on Amazon when it was free on promo. I started reading it yesterday and finished it today. It pulls you in from the first page and keeps you captivated until the end. There’s murder, mystery, intrigue, love, hate, passion, and mistrust. The characters are believable with their feelings and reactions and thoughts. She creates a whole world that you can picture laid out in front of you and  you can see the story happening as you’re reading it. I was honestly surprised at some of the information in the book as well as the ending. Never saw it coming. Definitely my first 5* read of 2017!

I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book in the series to see what happens next in the Dublin Mafia world and to see what happens to the Triskelion Team.

Roomie Wars by Kat T. Masen

Roomie Wars by [Masen, Kat T.]

Title: Roomie Wars

Author: Kat T. Masen

Release Date: 7/12/2016

Price: Currently Free with Kindle $17.99 Paperback

Description: Zoey

Turning thirty is overrated. Who said you had to be married with a fabulous career and three kids? I had a great life. Single, freedom to do whatever I please, and best of all, stay home on a Friday night in my sweats, eating pizza while listening to the best of the ’80s.

I’m fine.

Drew

When a woman says she’s fine, she’s not fine. Zoey had it all. Stunning looks, ambition, the whole package. Then he fucked her up. He broke her.

And now I’m left picking up the pieces…again.

Zoey Richards, strong-willed and driven, settled on the geeky struggling med student to share her apartment with, not the perfect-in-every-way stud who would just distract her and undoubtedly break her heart.

When her ex comes back into the picture, Zoey seeks revenge and enlists her roommate’s help. All Zoey and Drew need to do is pretend to be a couple for one night. But one night can change everything. Refusing to break their “roomie code,” and in an effort to deny their feelings for each other, a war erupts between Zoey and Drew.

She lives in the past; he, for the future. If opposites attract, will these two gamble their friendship for a chance at love?

————————————–

I really liked this book. Zoey is a typical female in her late twenties. She’s looking for a roommate and interviews several men before deciding on Andrew. After a while he becomes more health conscious and starts hitting the gym. With his new self, he decides he wants to be called Drew instead of Andrew. He’s a man-whore while Zoey hasn’t had anything serious since her relationship with Jess ended.

Things get complicated during the course of the story. And I mean complicated to the point I think it’s almost over at a few parts and it keeps going to prove me wrong. It’s a nice love story with some obstacles worked in. Not too many and not too few. I laughed a few times during this book at a few parts.

Author Kat Masen has a way with words. They were easy to read and flowed nicely across the page. I didn’t notice any spelling or grammatical errors. A solid 4/5 *’s on this one.

I purchased this book for free. Purchased on 1/6/2017. Started Reading 1/6/2017 and finished /7/2017.

Curing Doctor Vincent (The Good Doctor Trilogy #1) by Renea Mason

curing-doctor-vincent

Amazon Description: Elaine Watkins, Public Relations Advisor, is surprised when she receives a summons from the very attractive and enigmatic Dr. Xavier Vincent. She worships the talented physician and company icon responsible for developing the cure that saved her sister’s life and isn’t immune to his charm. Even though puzzled by his request, she is excited and eager to get started on his latest project.

But Dr. Vincent has other ideas. Instead of discussing cures, drugs and marketing strategies, he asks Elaine to join him in Paris to indulge his unique sexual appetites.

Torn between gratitude for saving her sister, her attraction for the powerful man and compromising her pre-conceived notions of sexuality, she must decide if it’s easier to feed his desires or walk away. Until she devises a plan of her own.

“Make no mistake, Elaine, I am a king. Kings command and conquer. They are brutal and uncompromising. You don’t want a king. Face it, you came here expecting a saint.” – Dr. Xavier

Curing Doctor Vincent is the first book in the Good Doctor Trilogy by author Renea Mason. It’s close to the anniversary of the day that her serial killer father is supposed to reveal where another of his victims is located. Elaine is ambushed at a company dinner and she ends up walking away. Dr Xavier Vincent follows her to make sure she’s alright.

Little does she realize that Dr. Vincent wants to have her in a different way. He ends up purchasing her a plane ticket to Paris which goes through her company as a “business” trip. Only, it’s anything but business. He proposes a deal to her and then leaves her to go to sleep. She is ambushed the next night with meeting two other people who are part of the deal.

What is the deal that Xavier has? Can she go through with it? Can she just walk away?

Honestly, I think the relationship between Elaine and Xavier is all kinds of screwed up for 99% of the book.  I understand why it is the way it is but it kinda makes you wonder if the author has had some sort of experience with it or if she just has a really good imagination! I didn’t really have a favorite character from this book as none of them really spoke to me and jumped from the pages. Sure they each had personality and everything but none really captured my attention.

I was disappointed when the book ended at the 68% mark. What fills the other 32% you question? Pages thanking the reader, information about the author, information about other books and then the first two chapters of two different books. Honestly, I could have done without the two books and their chapters included and had the story been longer.

Overall, 3/5 stars for this book.

The book is currently FREE on Amazon. If you want to get it and read it, please do. Come back and tell me what you think of it!

Nick (Bad Boys for Hire #3) by Rachelle Ayala

NEW RELEASE…

This Christmas, paraplegic Carol Cassidy is caught between the naughty and the nice: a hired Santa and a disabled firefighter.

Carol was an avid mountain climber until an accident left her in a wheelchair. Love is the last thing on her mind until she hires Nick to play Santa. Shocked at the sensations he elicits, she resists him and decides to date a good guy.

Nick is drawn to Carol like a magnet to iron, and he sets out to prove that bad boys who hire themselves out can be good boys, too—especially in bed.

Carol discovers she’s not dead to passion, but when Nick’s dirty laundry is aired, she regrets choosing the naughty over the nice. Will the spirit of Christmas teach her that sometimes, a huge lump of coal can turn into the brightest diamond of love?

Bad Boys for Hire are fun and exciting stories where love is unexpected, but always delicious. They can be read standalone, but for greater enjoyment, please be sure to check out the other books in the series.

———————————————

I loved reading this book. Carol is an incomplete paraplegic. Nick works at Bad Boys for Hire and is contracted to work as a Santa Claus for an event that Carol is putting on. Upon him walking into the bar that is the venue, they are attracted to each other. However, Carol protests his cocky, arrogant, self-assured attitude and wants to fire him. With not enough time for hiring a new Santa, they have to stick with him, much to her dismay.

Nick takes it upon himself to find out what Carol’s wish is during the event and she wants him to follow someone around all day so that he can learn what it’s like for someone in a wheelchair. They don’t need the pity and all the help that a lot of people offer or force upon them. They are just like normal people only they have to have a different way of doing normal things and may take longer.

Honestly, I did NOT like Nick at the beginning of the book. He was my least favorite character at the beginning and I just wanted to reach through the computer screen I was reading on and deck him. Since that wasn’t possible, I settled for strangling him in my imagination. LOL. Carol had her ups and downs on me liking her through the book. She was a strong character in most parts but had spots where I didn’t think her attitude fit her character but I understand why those spots were necessary.

Overall, I would give this book 4.5/5 stars. It is definitely one of the better books I’ve read this year. I love that the author went with a female lead that wasn’t a model/damsel-in-distress and that she had a disability. I really like that the author focused on some spots on different things that could help those that are in wheelchairs and some of them actually made sense.

While this is book three in the Bad Boys for Hire series, you do not need to read the books in order.
