What if your family had a big secret . . . a life changing secret. My dad, the bigwig CIA agent, was always on the run, whether he was being chased or doing the chasing. I missed him. Then my mom passed away, and my sister was murdered. I turned my solitude to strength because the alternative was too bleak.
But my luck seemed to turn: I met Tango. And while I want him more than I’ve ever wanted anything in my twenty-two years, danger lurks around every corner and I simply can’t take the chance of it finding me. But his tattoos, his smell, his darkness, and his body— that marine has taken over my every thought. But, what if he too isn’t what I think? A ticking time bomb isn’t going to leave me much time to waver. Even the bravest person can be in need of a miracle.
Before she was gone, my mom warned me to know everyone and trust no one. But what was I supposed to do when I found out I am the one not to be trusted? Turns out, I was always the bait in this conspiracy.
In author Shari J. Ryan’s New Adult novel, TAG, the canyons hold secrets, the waterfalls provide safety, and romance has a pesky way of showing up when you are sweaty and dirty and least expect it.

I’ve been seated among the dozens of other passengers for the past two hours, watching the gate times change a number of times before I see the plane actually arrive. Just as I’m powering my phone down, preparing to board, an awful stench burns my nose from a few inches away. A middle-aged man with greasy black hair and a thick lip-covering mustache who smells exactly like the inside of a port-a-potty has found a reason to sit directly beside me in a row of empty seats. When my eyes unfortunately meet his, he takes the opportunity to speak to me. “Heading to Boston?” he asks. I raise my eyebrows and force a tightlipped smile. I simply follow that with a nod and give him a no shit look. “I heard winter’s coming early this year,” he continues.
“Cool,” I mumble with a sigh. I pull a magazine out of my bag and open it in front of my face, hoping to block my vision of the man’s blackened-stained grin. But it’s only seconds before I’m taken back when his finger sweeps down the bare skin of my collarbone.
“What does that mean?” he asks, pointing to my tattoo.
With a smooth motion, I lay my magazine down onto my lap and place my hand over his, giving him the false notion that I’m a gentle person. I take the opportunity to offer him a slight smile before I twist his forefinger backwards as far as it will go before the expectant snap. “I’m sorry,” I say sweetly. “Did I tell you it was okay to touch me?” I pull down a little harder, and he smiles in response to the pain. But as I hold my hand there, I see the smile begin to fade.
“It’s a free country, chicky,” he sputters as his tongue knocks around between his bare gums.
“Why would you think it’s okay to touch me?” I ask again, keeping my voice calm, yet stern. He licks his lips and looks me up and down, responding with only a look. “Do you go around touching girls half your age because you feel it’s okay?”
He clears his throat and looks around to see who’s watching or listening, but I don’t move my eyes from his. “Why not?” he says, shrugging his bony shoulders. “Besides, you’re definitely asking for it.”
He thinks I’m asking for it? I’m wearing a fucking scoop neck, black long sleeve shirt, jeans, and combat boots. “The only reason it’s okay, is because no one has ever probably told you no. But it occurs to me that after I snap your finger off your hand, you won’t be able to touch people inappropriately anymore, will you?”
He hoots with laughter, dragging in attention he probably shouldn’t want. “You think you could break my finger, little chicklette?”
I pull his finger a little further, and his smile grows. “Ow, stop. You’re hurting me,” he puckers his lips and winks at me.
“Oh, look, it’s your right hand. You a righty?” I turn his hand over and see deep callouses bubbling on his palm. “Yes, you are. So, if I rip this thing off, you wouldn’t miss it, right?” I turn his hand back over and glare into his beady eyes. He’s questioning my words. He’s unsure of my capabilities. And that’s fine. “Sound okay to you? Or are you going to leave and stop touching people?” His smile fades and his eyes widen. I release his hand and offer him a smart-ass smile. “Oh, and the tattoo means death. It’s a Maori Warrior symbol. They used to eat their enemies once they slaughtered them. Cool, huh?”
I see his Adam’s apple struggle to move. He lifts his bag from the ground and nearly trips over his own feet, darting away.
I reopen my magazine to the page I was reading and refocus my attention on an article as I hear a soft chuckle coming from the other side of me. I turn to see who was enjoying the free entertainment and I’m faced with a man who looks to be either a wrestler or in the military–black shaven hair, stiff jaw and bulging muscles on every inch of his arms. His eyes are currently focused on a book, and I suppose he could have been laughing at that, rather than me. But as I question it, his large shamrock green eyes lift and look right at me. A slight grin tugs on the corner of his lips, and he winks so quickly I’m questioning whether it was me who might have blinked. Before I can react, he stands up and walks away.
I swallow hard and refocus my attention on the magazine once more. Stupid attractive man causing a moment of feebleness. I didn’t react, though. He winked at me. I think. And I didn’t make a snide comment or scowl. Weakness.
I let out a few short breaths, regaining my composure. He’s gone. It’s fine.

Red Nights by Shari J Ryan

red nights

First off, I want to say thank you to Shari herself and to Becky from Booktrope for providing me with an ARC copy of the book.

This book was AMAZING. I was glued to the pages from beginning to end. This book will keep you glued from page to page.

The story starts out on a sad note. Felicity’s house is on fire. She can’t see anything and has no sense of direction in how to get out of the house. A fireman ends up saving her while more go into the house and pull out another body – her brother. Her brother ends up dying because of burns and smoke inhalation from the fire. The fire investigators and the police are saying it’s arson. And Felicity is the main suspect in it.

One night, Felicity ends up abandoning her friends apartment and goes to the park. While there, a dog runs up to her and then the dogs owner walks up. They talk a little bit. Several nights in a row, Felicity ends up at the park and runs into the man, Hayes Peyton. One day Felicity and Hayes end up meeting at a Jamaican coffee shop and end up setting up a date for that night.

Things start getting serious between them while Felicity’s life is falling apart because of losing her brother, having to fire her best friend and because of being the main suspect in the arson case. When she unloads on Hayes, he wants to help her prove her innocence. But will the things they find make her look innocent or guilty? Why is she being accused of arson? If she’s innocent, who did it and why? What secret does her best friend Aspen have and eventually reveals to her?

Like I said above, this book is AMAZING. I have been a fan of Shari’s since I read her first book and I have continued to read her books as well. This book doesn’t disappoint. It has danger, mystery and romance in it. All things that make a great read. You will be glued to the pages from cover to cover and won’t want to quit reading for anything.  Everything that happens in this book is something I could honestly see happening in real life to someone.

Tempted to Kill (Men of the Badge #2) by Riley McKissack

Alisa has been looking for her sister for months after she ran away from the home she lived in with their stepfather. Meghan had tried to tell Alisa what had been happening but was going about it in a way that Alisa hadn’t understood. So Meghan ran away.

Alisa gets a lead one night when she stops and talks to a teenage girl that’s selling drugs in the street. The girl tells her she’s seen the girl in the picture but she goes by Taylor instead of Meghan. Chelsea, the girl, is in love with her pimp who is Weston. His undercover name is “Jake.” You guessed it. Weston is a part of a special task force. Chelsea also tells Alisa that Taylor/Meghan is one of Bones’ girls.

Alisa doesn’t know what that means to be one of Bones’ girls. She ends up at a bar and runs into Weston. Motor, a guy at the bar, takes an interest in her but Jake/Weston step in to stop that in it’s tracks. When Alisa and Meghan first see each other, sparks fly. Meghan doesn’t want to leave Bones and doesn’t want to give up her life. She’s actually in love with him.

But after a week, it’s all changed. When they make a meet for Alisa to buy Meghan (Bones’ thinks she’s a modern day madam), Meghan is ready to go. But Bones’ has a different plan.

A good read. I was surprised a couple times in the story because it wasn’t what I thought was going to happen.

Targeted to Kill (Men of the Badge #1) by Riley McKissack

targeted to kill

Becca Jefferson is a grade school teacher. She has group meetings once a week for the girls at the school to stay late, eat pizza and have a good time. One of her students doesn’t get picked up by her parents and can’t be reached on the phone. So Becca does the right thing and drives the girl home.

She hurries back to her house as it’s later than it normally is and she’s worried about Barley, her dog. She takes him for a walk as soon as she gets home and ends up kidnapped. Before all this though, there is a prison break. Mick Hampton, an undercover FBI agent, and three other felons break out of prison. They leave the safety of the ambulance and get in a backup SUV. Before leaving town, Rowdy the leader, has one more thing he has to do. Guess what it is?

Yep, that’s right. Kidnap Becca. But the thing is Becca and Mick have history together. They used to be a couple before Tess, Becca’s twin, was killed in the line of fire. She was Mick’s partner in the field and he couldn’t deal with what he thought Becca was thinking when she saw him. So he left.

Mick realizes it’s Becca because Barley was brought with her. He just hopes she has enough sense not to blow his cover. This was a REALLY big case that they were working on. He had to find the ones at the top of the chain.

This was a great book. It was not short on action or adventure at all. Each page led you directly to the other without wanting to take a break or do anything else until you finished all of the pages. I would highly recommend this one.

Billionaire’s Apprentice (Billionaire’s Romantic Thriller Series #1) by Chase Carroway

billionaire's apprentice

Tori Winters needs a job. She was in school but had to quit going in order to get a job so that she could pay for tuition.

Dorian Atticus is a rich man who seized everything from his sick father who has since passed on. Dorian knows he has enemies everywhere and takes all the precautions he can.

One day, those precautions aren’t enough. He ends up getting shot while trying to protect Tori and his staff members who were being held hostage.

Who was holding them hostage? Why would he risk his life for them? What happens to him in the end?

This is a good book. I like the romance in it as it isn’t a traditional romance book. Thrillers are something that can usually always capture my attention and I really liked this book.

This is the second book in the Rapine series by Charlotte Rose. The review for the first book can be found here.

While on this honeymoon, they are visiting all countries of the world in no certain order. Julian is making sure that Cheryl is having the time of her life but he’s worried about something.

Julian is used to having women throw themselves at him. So he likes some resistance and he thinks that by telling Cheryl that, she’ll want to leave him and ultimately hate him. But, he at least wants to give it a shot with her on his needs. She signs an agreement to try things his way in the bedroom to see if she likes it as well or not.

After being together for several months but less than a year, they learn that Cheryl is pregnant. She passes out one night and a doctor is called. He suggests a pregnancy test as he can’t find anything wrong with her. But the first one comes back negative. He suggests doing it again in a week. That time it comes out positive.

In the back of Cheryl’s mind this whole time is Derek coming for her. She doesn’t want to be with him but he doesn’t care about that. His pride was hurt when Julian took her from him.

Is there a showdown between Derek and Julian in this book? Or do we have to wait until book three to find out what happens? Where all do Julian and Cheryl go on their extended honeymoon? What surprises does Julian have for Cheryl?

This was an excellent book. There are some editing problems in it but not enough to interfere with the understanding, reading and progression of the book. If you liked the first book, you will definitely like this one as well. Highly recommended read.

Rapine: Abducted by the Billionaire (Trophy Wife #1) by Charlotte Rose

rapine 1

I’ve read this book before but didn’t write a review about it. So now I just re-read it and will leave a review. 🙂

This story starts out with Cheryl and Derek. They are engaged. Derek does not allow Cheryl to work. BTW, he is a billionaire. He transfers money to Cheryl’s bank account each month so she can pamper herself and make herself look the best she can for him. In return, he only wants her to please him sexually. Cheryl has breakfast, brunch or lunch with her friends daily.

Her friends are both married to billionaire’s as well so they all take turns in paying for their outings. While out one night at a night club, a stranger approaches them. He shows interest in Cheryl who politely declines him. This doesn’t stick with him though. He starts tracking her whereabouts and runs into her a few more times. His name is Julian.

Derek and Cheryl goes to Las Vegas for New Years Eve. She wakes up on New Years day with a massive hang over. She heads to go down to the concierge to get some Advil when she thinks better of the idea and goes to return to her room. Lo and behold, who does she run into? That’s right fans. She runs into Julian. He offers her some Advil and water and she accepts it. He grabs her and forces her into his room where she struggles against him. Derek sees this. He gets severely pissed off and kicks the door in.

Ensue the major violence going on between the boys. Julian wins and knocks Derek out cold. He then makes Cheryl black out and he kidnaps her. He takes her to his home but he doesn’t hurt her. He wants her to trust him. He explains everything to her and wishes for her to stay there voluntarily. (To find out if she stays or goes, you’re going to have to read the book. 🙂 )

A great read. Definitely not for people who don’t like/read erotica as there are MANY spots throughout the book with erotica in it. 🙂
