Hell Spawn (Shifter Squad #9) by J.C. Diem

Hell Spawn

Hell Spawn is the ninth and final book in the Shifter Squad series by author J.C. Diem. This book is what all the others have been leading up too. This book is definitely more somber than the others but it needed to be.

Lexi, Reece, Kala, Flynn and the rest of the people they know, came into contact with, rescued and even all of humanity need to come together in order for their world to be saved. Kurt Jorgen makes it impossible for the humans to not know about the supernatural community after he starts his attacks. He wipes out several towns. Before long he’s taken out half a million people.

Lexi, Reece and the rest of their team try to stop Kurt and his minions. Lexi is actually able to surprise Kurt and wring his neck, effectively killing him. Only thing is, he doesn’t stay dead. None of them had a way of knowing that he was immortal just as she and her team were. Lexi retreats with the Oracles help and they come up with another plan. They call on ALL the resources they’ve come across. Cole, Bruce, Aiden, Leanne, the Oracle, and yes, even Nina’s pack. Shifters have a tendency to fight when they’re around rival packs.

Lexi has to take over their minds as the supreme alpha shifter and instill an order not to attack each other. Since she and Reece are the supreme alpha shifter couple, no one can resist them. Lexi leaves Reece, Flynn and Kala out of her orders. On one of their missions, her father, Philip Levine, is grabbed by the griffin golem and taken into the air. She does the only thing she can think of to save him. She makes him into an immortal just like Zeus is. He doesn’t seem to like it at first but gets used to it.

I didn’t think the author could outdo themselves compared to previous books. Man was I wrong. I absolutely loved this book. I’m sad it’s the end of the series…especially with how it ended. Hopefully the new series coming out in May is a spin off of this series and we get to read more, maybe from a different Champions POV, possibly?

This book had me crying at parts. There really were no happy moments in this book unless you count Kala killing a certain member they’d all wanted to kill a long time, and I’m not talking about Kurt Jorgen! 😀 This book will have you glued to the pages from beginning to end, not wanting to do anything else until you finish it. I couldn’t believe some of the things that were in here but it made an awesome read. Highly recommend this series!

Bear Unbound (Shift Your Fate #1) by Cara Wylde

Bear Unbound

Amazon Description: Beautiful, curvy Amber is ready to reclaim her freedom. She’s had enough of her husband’s lies and she’s done with his family’s weird rules. She’s getting a divorce, and she’s taking her 8-year-old daughter with her. Oh, and she’s determined to stay away from men. For now at least. But her best friend, Rebecca, has other things in mind. She takes her to the one place where Amber can find what she’s truly looking for: Shift Your Fate. Instead of advising her to leave her past behind, the empath Kassandra reminds her there was someone else before her ex-husband, someone who could have made her happy, if only she had given him a chance.

Tyler Atwood lost contact with Amber ten years ago, when she married Stephan Castell. He had a choice to make then: tell her the truth about her husband, or step aside and leave them be. He chose the latter. Amber wouldn’t have believed him anyway. Bear-shifters? An Assassins’ Guild hunting supernatural people? On second thought, it was better if she never knew. Now, Amber is back into his life. Being with her puts both of them in danger, but how could he resist? She’s always been the only woman who could tame his bear.

Bear Unbound is the first book in the Shift Your Fate series of standalone novels. What you should expect: hot, steamy scenes, growly Alpha males, beautiful, curvy heroines, and well-deserved happily ever afters. Intended for readers 18+.

——————————————–

Amber is married to Stephan Castell and they have an 8 year old daughter together, Ava. Amber is tired of Stephan’s cheating and lying and the lack of treatment from him and his family. She leaves with Ava and goes to her best friends place in New York. Ava thinks they are on a mini-vacation shortly before school starts. Becca and Amber go out to lunch with Ava one day. Becca takes Ava home and suggests that Amber step into the office across the street and talk to Kassandra. Talking to Kassandra brings up Tyler, one of Amber’s old friends that she used to talk to and then they just quit.

Amber messages Tyler and it sets them off on a whirlwind of adventure and romance. But Stephan isn’t going to let Amber go without a fight. Amber wants nothing more than to be rid of Stephan but after she learns what Tyler says, how will she feel about Tyler as well? Or any of the others for that matter when other stuff comes to light?

Cara Wylde is no new author to me. I’ve read plenty of her books and always liked them. This one is no exception. Although, I do think that parts of this were rushed. I think there could have been more backstory on each of the characters as well. Overall, it’s still a good story. I can’t wait for the next book in the Shift Your Fate series to find out how this whole thing plays out.

I do like that on the Amazon page, it CLEARLY states that there are other books in the set and what they are. Too often authors don’t include there are other books in there and you are disappointed when you realize the story is short but there’s over 300+ pages. This story itself, in PDF format is 175 pages. It’s available for 99 cents on Kindle and free with Kindle Unlimited.

***I received an advanced copy in PDF format in exchange for my honest opinion.***

Anna and the Bear (Shifting Impulse #1) by Aurora Woodlove

Anna and the Bear

Anna and the Bear is the first book in the Shifting Impulse series by author Aurora Woodlove. This is her first book written as well. I was excited to read this since Aurora is a friend of one of my favorite authors and friends. I’m going to give my honest opinion here so please don’t kill me.

I think the book was lacking and rushed. It’s missing back-story of both characters and I felt we really needed backstory. Anna is definitely a damaged character but we don’t know why she is the way she is. She wants Adam and then pushes him away and then wants him and then pushes him away. Even though Adam doesn’t take no for an answer, he gives her a taste of her own medicine after they sleep together one night and she wants him to leave.

Adam wants nothing more than to take her back to his place and mate with her, making her his. Adam hides things from Anna but she forgives him. Like when she goes out to meet a client and ends up meeting Ryan, Adam’s twin brother. The way Ryan and Adam acted, I kinda thought it was going to turn out differently when it came to this part.

It’s pretty much sex from the beginning and Anna resisting Adam. The story is rushed which I felt could have had so much potential had it not been so short at only 72 pages. Overall, it’s an okay book. I would be interested in reading the second book in the series in the future and seeing how her writing progresses.

Web Master (Shifter Squad #8) by J.C. Diem

Web Master

Web Master is the eighth book in the Shifter Squad series by author J.C. Diem.  The books get better and better as they go! I was honestly stunned when I read who the main villain has been this whole time. And how long the treachery has been going on. I didn’t see it coming but once you learn who it is and realize stuff said and done in the last several books, it makes sense although it doesn’t add up on it’s own until you realize it! I laughed and cried while reading this book and was totally creeped out since there were spiders involved in this book. While reading it, I seriously felt like I had spiders crawling all over me.

I can’t wait to see where the ninth and final book of the series takes us when it’s released in March. I hope Lexi is able to succeed with her mission but right now, I’m not so sure that she’s going to be able to succeed. I’ll just have to wait and read the last book when it comes out later this year!!

———————

This book is full of treachery. The Track and Kill Squad is summoned to PIA Headquarters. This is unusual since only those with level eight clearance is allowed there. Everyone but Mark are all level fives. They make it to headquarters and are given a bunch of information on EERI buildings. EERI needs to be eliminated and who better to do it than the TAK squad. But usually the “O” (Obliteration) Squad takes care of that. So it was kind of suspicious that the TAK squad was directed here. Too late they realize it was a set-up.

Kendricks, the leader of the O Squad, ends up being killed by a demon that was raised from Hell itself. The demon ends up killing Zeus, Lexi’s Rottweiler friend. Lexi is filled with rage. Her werewolf backs down and the vampire and necromancer parts of her work together. Together they end up summoning ghosts and killing the demon. Then, they bring Zeus back from the dead. He’s still Zeus but he’s something much more different and terrifying now. We learn more about what he’s become when the team goes back to the PIA headquarters.

All hell breaks loose at the PIA headquarters. Part of Zeus’ powers, which I’m sure there are more, are revealed. A zombie and ghost within the PIA’s walls and shields are revealed by Lexi and the team. A demon appears. The mastermind behind all the deception and the orchestrator of the appending apocalypse is revealed. We learn part, as again I’m sure there’s more, of Laurylane’s gift to the TAK Squad, including Mark.

Snake Charmer (Shifter Squad #6) by J.C. Diem

Snake Charmer

Snake Charmer is the sixth book in the Shifter Squad series by author J.C. Diem. We know that in the last book that Lexi had transformed into her wolf self and took off out of the compound. She was unable to deal with the pain of Garrett/Reece rejecting her for his true, full=blooded wolfshifter mate. She ends up in the wild in her wolf form for close to a month before Zeus shows up in the cave she’s been staying in after killing the bear who had been inhibiting it.

Hunters in the area end up shooting Zeus in the leg and him needing her help is what draws Lexi back to her human form. While still in wolf form though, she knocks the two hunters unconscious. She steals one of their clothes and I had to laugh at what she does to them. Since it’s winter, she was nice and built a fire so they wouldn’t freeze to death but she puts them in a spooning position and just imagining it made me laugh. (My daughter looked at me like I was nuts, btw.)

She steals their truck and ends up getting Zeus to a vet. While there, she ends up being detained by a couple deputies and is held until the sherriff gets there. He doesn’t like her story so she ends up behind bars. The sheriff refuses to let her make a call but it’s not necessary once Mark walks into the police station. He takes over “custody” of Lexi, even though she had given a fake name. They stop and pick Zeus up and then head back to the compound in Colorado.

That’s when they learn of a new case involving snakes biting people in the neck after these world’s deadliest snakes had gone missing from a snake park in Texas. They head to Texas and it’s not long before Flynn goes missing when they’re checking out a farm!

I’m going to leave the review right there. I think that should be enough to pull you into reading this series and this book. 🙂 I will say that this is the most interesting book of the series so far in my opinion. I’ve liked all the other books but I absolutely LOVED this book. We get to meet new people, new threats and friendships are tested more than ever before. I will admit I have laughed and cried while reading this book. The crying comes after what all I mentioned above so I won’t give it away here on what made me cry. Lexi is still my favorite character even though she’s a devious little thing! lol

Triad (The Hidden Alpha #2) by Cara Wylde

The Hidden Alpha

Triad is book two of The Hidden Alpha series by Cara Wylde. It is best to read the Sold to the Alpha series before reading this series as this series references things that happened and are explained in detail in the first series.

The Hidden Alpha follows Amelia from Alma Venus. The first book we know that Amelia is bought for Blake of Clan Sylfur. In this book, we learn more about Blake, Roman and their fight to keep the reins of the fox clan. Amelia and Seth are in a secret relationship with Blake’s blessing. They have to be careful not to spend too much time together and to not be caught. They do a good job of it.

Seth learns about Amelia’s parents being killed and promised to help track down their killers. Some MAJOR things are revealed about this and I have an idea where it’s going. If it’s the direction I think, I’m not sure about how I feel about that! Lol. Things that we do know, I do like.

At the end of the book, a HUGE announcement is made that takes Roman and Blake by surprise. I was shocked by the announcement as I honestly didn’t see it coming!

———————–

This is a great book to read. I love Cara’s works and when I saw this book was out, I knew I had to get it! I got it and started reading right away, hooked from the first page. The characters are enjoyable…..well, most of them are anyways. (Still not sure about Blake’s uncles/Roman’s brothers) I could see this series being more books than the three that Cara has planned and I secretly hope she goes for more books. 😉 (What can I say? I’m addicted! lol)

Dark Coven (Shifter Squad #3) by J.C. Diem

Dark Coven

This book was just as good as the first two books in the Shifter Squad series by J.C. Diem. With only having a week before the full moon, the Shifter Squad is sent to investigate mysterious disappearances that keep happening every year in a small town. Lexi, who has been reading in the PIA archives, realizes they are going against a coven of witches and warlocks. This unsettles Mark but doesn’t deter them since they are really the only team that can handle this assignment.

They stay at a bed and breakfast on the outside of the town. Lexi, who appears to have an affinity for magical things, can see the shimmering of a force field around the town when they cross over. Mark immediately begins bleeding. They stop the SUV and hurry to turn around. Once they cross the line again, the bleeding stops. They take him back to the bed and breakfast while the four of them go check out the town. Mark isn’t happy about having to sit this one out at all buts knows that they have it covered.

Kala and Lexi are paired together, much to Reece’s chagrin. The girls go into a cafe because they’re checking things out. Only Lexi realizes, as well as Kala, that the elderly lady behind the counter isn’t actually an elderly lady. They can see through the spell and realize that she’s one of the witches of the coven. While there waiting, a man comes in and they realize that he’s one of the warlocks. They talk about the tripped shield and can’t figure out why there wasn’t a body around because of the aneurysm that was supposed to happen if someone crossed the line and knew of them.

They get out of there when they realize they are getting suspicious of Lexi and Kala. Reece had parked the SUV on a side street as he and Flynn high tale it out of there and into the woods on the way to the bed and breakfast. Things go from bad to worse when Lexi ends up getting herself caught by the owner of the cafe they went into. Luckily, Lexi had made friends with a bunch of dogs and they come to her rescue followed by Reece, Kala and Flynn. Reece ends up carrying Lexi back to the inn. Things still aren’t at the worst at this point and they get a lot worse before the end of the book.

——————————————-

I think it’s pretty safe to say that author J.C. Diem has a new fan for life. I have the first book in the Mortis series to read now. I am hoping to get the rest of the books in the Shifter Squad series soon. I am seriously addicted to these books! The writing is amazing as is the world building. You can honestly see everything playing out in your mind as you’re reading the books. The characters are like everyday people except they are shifters as well.

Twisted (The Hidden Alpha #1) by Cara Wylde

Twisted

The Hidden Alpha series follows Amelia. If you’ve read the Sold to the Alpha series which features Avelyn and Max, then you’ve already met Amelia and know that she’s quite difficult. Though not her own fault really. She does prove to be Avelyn’s friend and helps her escape the boarding school, Alma Venus, the night that she is bought by Max Blackmane.

In this series, Seth comes to Alma Venus and goes through the entire book of the fox brides before having Amelia come in. She was worried because her name is in the first few pages of the book but she was called in last, after every other fox bride. Seth puts her through all the tests and questions and decides that she’s the right person for Blake, the next in line Inari, or alpha. He purchases her and they begin the long flight to Alaska, her new home.

But things get really complicated very quickly. Between Seth, Blake and Amelia.

—————————————-

I just, I really can’t believe I just read what I read! I was NOT expecting that last twist in there at all. I really wasn’t. The author, Cara Wylde, definitely snuck that in and I’m sure everyone who reads this book will be shocked by the revelations at the end. I am so glad that this is a trilogy and there are two more books to come. This book leaves off at a HUGE cliffhanger. Normally with cliffhangers, I don’t continue to read the series cause that’s one of my pet peeves but with Cara Wylde, I think I’ll let it slide. 😉

Of Wolves and Dragons (Sold to the Alpha #6) by Cara Wylde

cara wylde

This is the last book in the Sold to the Alpha series by Cara Wylde.

——————

Avelyn, Max, Karl, Jocelyn and others are summoned to council chambers when one of Sabine’s wolves comes forward and tells her tale. Max and Karl lose their advisory positions but are lucky because they weren’t sentenced to death. The council decides there will be a trial set for two months from then. In the mean time, they all need to relax and get their stories as straight and on point as possible.

Avelyn is really pregnant at this point and it’s uncomfortable for her to sit there through the questioning and through all the trails. She eventually has her child but is it a boy or girl? And is it shifter or human?

——————–

I loved this book. I kept the overview of the book short because I really don’t want to give away too much in this book. Let’s just say, that people end up getting what’s coming to them. This book was awesome to read. I was glued to my computer screen while writing it. Cara Wylde’s style of writing is great. Now that this series is over with, I will have to hope for a spinoff series following Karl, cause let’s face it, I love the bad boy. 😀 I will also have to keep my eye out for her other series, Lure Academy, to be updated as well. The first two books are available in the Lure Academy series.

My Personal Opinion:

I loved this book. I like the paranormal: werewolves, vampires and the like. For being a short story in this first part it is good. I would recommend it if you like werewolves.
