A Shade of Vampire (Shade of Vampire #1) by Bella Forrest

A Shade of Vampire

A Shade of Vampire is the first book in the Shade of Vampire series by author Bella Forrest. I’ve heard good things about this series and after this first book, I’m liking it so far.

Sofia Claremont has just turned seventeen years old. Her best friend, Ben, has forgotten it. When she said something to him, he apologized and she ended up walking out on him and going for a walk on the beach. She senses when someone walks up behind her and she hopes it’s Ben only it wasn’t. It was a gorgeous man who ended up putting a needle in her neck and knocking her out.

She wakes up chained to a wall in a dungeon. She is later taken, cleaned up and presented to the ruler of the vampires who has just happened to wake up a short time earlier that day/night. Derek Novak is the ruler of the vampire coven in The Shade. The Shade was his dream over 500 years ago when he first became a vampire to help protect his family and those that had protected them as well.

He takes an immediate liking to Sofia and refuses for her to be treated like the other slaves. Lucas, the one who captured Sofia, is Derek’s brother as well as Vivienne’s twin brother. Lucas hates that Derek has claimed Sofia as his as he wants her. He claims she is his because he found her and brought her to The Shade. To his brother and sister’s dismay, he decides to train Sofia and the other girls in his “harem” how to fight and defend themselves. Especially after Lucas kills Gwen.

I like this book. Right from the start I like both Sofia and Derek. Lucas and Claudia I don’t like at all. Ben and Vivienne I’m not so sure on. We’ll see how opinions change over the course of reading the next several books in the series. (I have the first seven books.) Definitely a book to read. I can see this series being as good as if not better than Twilight!

Monsterland by Michael Phillip Cash

This book was ah-freaking-mazing. The way it ends, it leaves it open to make it into a series and I really wish the author would! There are so many unanswered questions and not enough answers! This book contains action, adventure, horror, zombies, vampires and werewolves. A great read for sure.

Description on back of book:

The Scariest Place on Earth

All guests can interact with real vampires in Vampire Village, be chased by actual werewolves on the River Run, and walk among the dead in Zombieville.

Wyatt, Melvin and Howard, three unpopular high school friends are stuck in Copper Valley, California. Nerdy Howard is oblivious to social cues, Melvin is an oddball outcast, and Wyatt is in love with the unattainable Jade- the most popular girl in school.

Due to a fortuitous circumstance, they are invited tot he star-studded opening of Monsterland. In a theme park full of real vampires, werewolves and zombies, what could possibly go wrong?

The answer to the question posed in the description is A LOT. And I mean a lot. I started reading this book last night and made it to chapter 19 before crashing and finished the rest today. I just can’t even process what I’ve just read! lol. I wish it was longer. I felt it was too short and could have been longer.

I do like this author. I hadn’t read his works before but I was given this book and since it’s one of my favorite genres, I decided to give it a chance. I am glad I did. Vampires, zombies and werewolves in one book! My dream come true! The characters are likable (most of them anyways). The author uses such descriptive details that you can actually image everything happening as you’re reading.

Blood Draw (Blood Type #2) by Melissa Luznicky Garrett

blood draw

Welcome back Blake, Olivia, John, Thomas, Ian and the rest of the characters from the first book plus more.

As known from the first book, Josiah turned Blake into a vampire. They have a connection and he is starting to warm up to her. (Not that she wants his attention.) Conrad Abernathy is revolting along with a bunch of other head watchers in the regions. Blake teams up with others hoping to bring him down.

Things go wrong when she talks to Thomas, who is Conrad’s son. Thomas talks to Margaret, his sister. Margaret implants herself into Blakes life by way of Olivia and compelling her.

If they are to have any hope, outside of the vampire Queen, John and Bridget (another vampire) set off on a journey to find Hannah (a powerful compeller) who John used to take for a decade. John, Blake and the others learn something about Blake when Hannah comes back to John’s house.

This is a good book. Unlike the first book, this one is presented in only the present. It doesn’t flip back and forth from present to past and back again.

I highly recommend this series for those that like thrillers, fantasy and sci-fi type books.

Blood Type (Blood Type Series #1) by Melissa Luznicky Garrett

blood type

Blake Elhert has a perfect life. She is co-captain of the high school cheer squad, a senior, 2 time prom queen and, popular and is dating the football teams quarterback, Zack. But things change during the summer before senior year at a party for football players and cheerleaders. She meets John Kelly, a fellow student who is neither a football player or a quarter back. He came with a cheerleader to the party. John and Blake leave the party together and start talking. Blake ends up ending things with Zack and she starts a relationship with John.

Things start to go wrong when John’s friend Ian comes to town. Blake meets Ian and is kind of creeped out by him but she doesn’t know why. She later finds out why later and begins to hate him. She eventually forgives him in the end though because he helps her save John. In the mean time, before needing to save John, Ian does something that he later regrets. In retaliation and out of anger, Blake goes to a man named Josiah and instantly regrets it. She hurries to fix what she did but isn’t able too.

Blake learns a lot of things she didn’t know. But she ends up accepting everything in the end. Together Thomas, Blake and John go back to his house to recouperate from the days events that lead to John being rescued.

Overall, this is an okay book. It would be better if it didn’t switch back and forth from past to present almost every chapter. I do like it. If only they could make clear which is present and which is past at the beginning so it doesn’t confuse you!

Vampire Vacation (The V V Inn #1) by CJ Ellisson

vampire vacation

Welcome to the Vampire Vacation Inn located in Alaska. Vivian, who goes by other names as well from past eras, is a 580 year old vampire who owns the inn with her human mated husband, Rafe. All the employees that work at the inn are human but know most of the guests are vampires. They are cool is working there and even donating blood to some of the vampires while they are there on vacation. (They all wear special bracelets in case of a panic or emergency).

Vivian, who was known as Alexandria at the time, used to be an Enforcer for the Tribunal. The Tribunal is the vampire justice “system” although they are corrupt. Vivian has killed two of them previously and knows she has more enemies after her that are on the Tribunal forces. Things start to go haywire when a new clan of vampires comes to stay for a week.

Vivian is checking out the rooms to make sure they are prepared for the new arrivals. Guess what she finds? A dead body. And he’s not registered at the inn as any of the vampires companions or mates. So she starts wondering how he got there. She call in Jon, a werewolf and friend, to help track the scent to see who could have killed him.

Well, things get worse before they get better. Vivian eventually has to rally all the master vampires that are there and the other non-master as well for a hunt. This hunt is sanctioned by the Tribunal which means they won’t get in trouble for it. Vivian KNOWS who is behind the killings but the others don’t want to fully believe her.

In the end, Vivian proves right and sets a trap. I will not tell you if it was a success or not. You will have to read the book to find out all the juicy details I’ve left out. And there are PLENTY of them. 🙂

A great read if you like romance, eroticism, werewolves and most importantly, vampires. 🙂

vampire shift

Kiera Hudson is a twenty year old police constable. She made the decision to become a cop when she was 17 years old. Her mother had went missing. Her disappearance is explained towards the end of the book.

Kiera just graduated from the police academy. Her first assignment – a volunteer assignment – is The Ragged Cove. She learns things aren’t what they seem the first night she arrives.

The police force in The Ragged Cove consists of Rom, Sergeant Murphy, Potter and Luke Bishop. Luke Bishop ends up falling for Kiera. The first night there, before actually starting her job, she rides with Luke to a scene. This is where she meets Potter, and let me assure you, there is NO love lost between these two.

The next night she is dispatched to the church where a grave was desecrated. Kiera learns the truth that night. Vampires exist. She kills one. Murphy, Luke and Potter lie to her which ensues a verbal onslaught from her. Rom walks in while she is ranting and raving and he ultimately “fires” her.

On her way out of town, she hits a patch of black ice and her car flips. Getting out, she is attacked by some vampires. Luke shows up and single handedly saves her from them. He takes her back to the inn where she was staying. He explains everything to her and he disappears the next day.

Kiera, being Kiera, knows when her secretive helper is getting ready to leave her another note. She catches him in the act this time and is surprised to learn who it is. Things quickly escalate and Kiera learns several people aren’t who they claim to be.

In the end, a huge fight breaks out. I’m not going to let you know who lives and who dies and what happens after the fight. 🙂

Awakened (Vampire Awakenings #1) by Brenda K. Davies

Sera is in her senior year of college. She is a book worm and very neat and orderly. Kathleen is her roommate and has been since freshman year. Kathleen is the opposite of Sera, liking to squeak by and party all the time.

Kathleen drags Sera to a party one night. It’s there that Kathleen points out a new guy that was being fawned over by all the other females at the party. Deciding not to be a groupie, Sera stays away from him. She finds one of her other friends that isn’t interested in him either and talks to her. She goes outside and sits on the lawn for a while before Kathleen pulls her back inside.

Sera meets Liam, the mystery guy. Things start to snowball from there, but in a good way. There are a ton of things that happen in this 419 page book. I would seriously recommend it.

My Personal Opinion:

I am a fan of fantasy novels, specifically zombies, werewolves and vampires. This book is about the latter, hence the series name. I love when vampire books don’t follow the typical pattern of what most vampire books do. This one does NOT disappoint in any way. I will say, there were spots that I thought the outcome was going to be different and was surprised when it didn’t go the way most would expect it to go. Highly recommend this book.
