It’s a Waverly Life (The (Mis)Adventures of Waverly Bryson 2) by Maria Murnane

It's a Waverly Life (The (Mis)Adventures of Waverly Bryson Book 2) by [Murnane, Maria]

Amazon Description: Readers first met the irrepressible Waverly Bryson in Perfect on Paper, and now the woman dubbed by fans “the American Bridget Jones” is back in a sequel packed with friendship, heartache, and romance.

The formerly heartbroken singleton is now happily enmeshed in a new relationship, a new job, and a new decade. Her career as an advice columnist is taking off, and the future of her fledgling greeting-card line is bright. Of course, where Waverly goes, drama is sure to follow, and this time is no exception. Her broken engagement has left her gun-shy when it comes to love, putting strain on her long-distance relationship with handsome Jake McIntyre. And when her best friends both make life-changing announcements, Waverly fears she is being left behind by the ones she loves most.

In true Waverly fashion, things must get comically worse before they can get better. But in the end, she discovers that though life (before and after thirty) may be messy and unpredictable, friendship and love make it all worthwhile.

It’s a Waverly Life is the 2nd book in the (Mis)Adventures of Waverly Bryson series by author Maria Murnane.

This book is just as good as the first, if not better. Waverly is still a hot mess but in a good way. Andie and Makenna are still awesome. We still have several of the people from the first book making appearances and a few new people as well. My favorite person has got to be Andie and her tell it like it is attitude.

Waverly and Jake are still friends and possibly more but things go from bad to worse to who the hell knows what before we finally realize what the heck is going on. Throw into the mix a bunch of misunderstandings, a few wrong timings and you have the recipes for disaster.

Andie, Makenna and Scott are all there for Waverly as she needs their help a lot as well as a couple new people. The characters in this series could EASILY be based off of ordinary people like you and I. (Kinda makes me wonder if anything mentioned has happened to the author. 😉 )

At about 275 pages, this book is the perfect length for everything that needs to be covered. And that’s a lot coming from me. I ALWAYS want more pages in a book but this book is the right length.

Gabe (Alvarez Security #1) by Maryann Jordan

Amazon Description: Former Special Forces brothers-in-arms now working together to provide an elite security service in the southern city of Richland.
Gabe Malloy, dedicated to his brothers, spent his weekends with cheap booze and easy women. When some of his friends finally settled down, he wondered if he would ever find the woman of his dreams. He just never expected to encounter her in an alley.
Jennifer Lambert worked as a social worker for the city and would often take food to the elderly residents in her building. One night, in an alley behind a restaurant, she was startled by a tall, handsome man wanting to assist. Giving him the cold shoulder, she left…but dreams of him followed her long into the night.
Gabe knew the independent Jennifer was a woman worthy of knowing, but convincing the beauty that she needed him was the challenge. Raising her young brother plus the responsibilities of the elder center, had kept her from looking for love…but she took a chance on Gabe.
Now that he found her, can he keep her safe when someone threatens her and those she loves? Calling upon his brothers, Alvarez Security races to save her before it is too late.

We first meet Gabe and some of the others while they’re on a rescue mission. Fast forward to when they’re out of the Special Forces and are in a security agency together. Each of the men that work there are alpha males but get along well with each other since most of them had served together. While providing security at an event, Gabe goes outside to get away from the starlet that had been driving him nuts. In the alley, inside the dumpster no less, he finds what he thinks is a young female but turns out she’s all woman. It’s almost instant love for him but Jennifer has different plans. She thinks of him as a giant and he thinks of her as a pixie. Which, imagining their size difference, I can see it. Lol

Jennifer is a selfless person, taking care of her younger brother and working as a social worker helping the elderly. She lives in a building which acts as a home for some of the elderly. She does what she can to help out there, take care of her brother, and handle her other cases at the DSS. Gabe begins stalking her in a way and she finally gives in and goes out with him. He knows he wants forever but is willing to take it a day at a time for her benefit.

Jennifer ends up being assaulted when it should have simply been a scare/threat to give up the building the center was in for the elderly . This along with other important parts of the book I shall not divulge leads up to interesting twists I didn’t really see coming. There were good guys I thought were bad guys and bad guys I thought were good guys!

This book has action, adventure and romance. And plot twists. Several plot twists. This was, hands down, one of the better books I have read in a while. Once I started reading, i read it all in one session. No breaks. Straight through. I couldn’t get enough of this book.

I love Jennifer. She is my kind of woman. Smart, sassy, don’t take no crap from anyone kind of woman. Gabe is a no-nonsense alpha male who finds himself accommodating himself to Jennifer’s pace and her life, including her brother who he comes to love just as much as Jennifer herself.

Some of the scenarios in this book, I can see happening in real life and I’m sure they do. Extortion, kidnapping, murder, assault. And not just the bad things either. There are the champions for the people that can’t take on their cause themselves out there.

The authors writing pulls you in from the beginning. There are a few editing errors but nothing that interrupts the flow of the story. I can see how Maryann Jordan is an award winning author and how this book. is a silver medal winner for Readers Favorites.

Definitely a book I would rate 5 stars and gladly do so.

Love in the Vineyards by Nathasha Perets

Love in the Vineyards

This book starts off on a tragic note. James and Susan have known each other for fifteen years. Susan was a beauty who kept getting approached by scouts to become a model or actress but she always show them down. She didn’t want any of that. She knew what she wanted and that was James and a family. James and Susan moved into a small house with their twelve year old daughter, Diana. On this special and tragic day, Susan informs James that she’s pregnant. They’d been trying for several years but had been unsuccessful since Diana until now. They were both elated and wanted to break the news to Diana gently since she was used to being an only child at this point. So they decide to go to her favorite restaurant and tell her after eating. Only they never make it to the restaurant. Their car is struck by an oncoming truck driver. Susan dies while James and Diana live. Diana never does find out what the news was that they wanted to share with her.

Diana starts to take care of her dad. She ends up working three jobs to support his debts which lead to him drinking and gambling all the time. Only his gambling gets him into a TON of trouble with the wrong people. Wanting assurance that he will find a way to repay his debts, they decide they want Diana in exchange for the assurance. This way they know he’ll keep good on his debts to reclaim his daughter.

This is a beautiful story. It’s about love, revenge and hatred. I loved reading this book. It takes the reader through so many emotions while reading. You’ll be happy, sad, elated, angry. All the emotions the characters feel, you will feel as well. The author evokes these emotions from you from the very first pages. The world that is built is believable while the characters are multi-leveled and well developed. I could definitely see a series being made.

Nathasha Perets is an author that is new to me. I came across her book and the cover drew my attention. I felt that this was going to end up being a romance from it and when I read the description of the book I knew it was one that I would like. The story didn’t disappoint one bit. The only thing I was disappointed with was the length. This could have easily become a three hundred plus page book and still held my attention from beginning to end.

Wait for the Rain by Maria Murnane

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn’t so sure I was going to like this book at first. It started off slow to me and that usually irks me. But I pushed through the slow parts and things picked up quickly. The more I read this book, the more I liked it.

Three friends who are in their forties (well, one will turn forty while with friends) go on a vacation together. They haven’t seen each other since the reunion when they turned thirty. Daphne, our main character, tries to hide how she feels. Her teenage daughter is with her father and her father’s new fiancee. It’s been two years since they separated and the divorce is newly finished. Luckily, Brian hadn’t left Daphne for Alyssa.

Daphne, KC and Skylar meet up at the airport on the Caribbean island of St. Mirika. Skylar immediately knows that Daphne is off but doesn’t push her for any information. They make it to the house they are staying at, compliments of Skylar’s boss. Skylar ends up on a call for work, like she does everyday even though it’s supposed to be a vacation. KC being the health enthusiast/sports oriented nut she is, goes for a run on the beach. Daphne decides to go for a walk along the beach and goes the same direction that KC went. While walking, she comes across a stone and throws it into the water. What she doesn’t know, is that stone seems to turn her life around.

A man from the house behind her calls out to her. They talk for a few minutes where she learns that he isn’t even thirty yet. This off sets her and she walks away once she sees KC. KC is talking to an older couple and Daphne joins the conversation. (This old couple was a favorite in this book.) KC and Daphne instantly like them and learn that they had been married for FORTY years. Daphne regains hope that there is someone out there for her and that she can have the happy marriage like the old couple.

The next day, Daphne along with Skylar and KC end up running into Clay (the twenty-something year old) and the men he’s with for the bachelor party. They are playing a game of football. KC and Daphne end up joining the game while Skylar watches.

Their week on the island goes by quickly but not without some excitement. Daphne ends up hooking up with someone on the island as does Skylar. KC ends up stung by a jellyfish and taken to the hospital because it turned out she was allergic. A LOT more than this happens though but you’ll have to get the book and read it as I’m not telling anything else. 😀

This book was awesome. Daphne, Skylar and KC are all characters you can stand behind and like. They are like normal everyday people and that is what I like the most about this book. (Also their antics.) Daphne finally opens up and starts becoming her old self again, even confirmed by Skylar and KC that she’s beginning to come back. I enjoyed reading this book after the first chapter being slow. Sometimes you gotta trudge through the slow to get to the good. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to fans of romance

Prick (A Step-brother Romance) by Sabrina Paige

Prick is a step-brother romance. I must say, the name alone brought me to getting this book. I just had to see what this book was about and why it was titled like this. It was NOT a disappointment at all.

Katherine Harrison is the daughter of a Senator. Caulter Sterling is the son of a famous Hollywood actress. They both attend Brighton, which is a boarding school for high school students. Caulter is part of the Lacrosse team there and one of the other players set up a game called Brighton Bingo. Almost all of the team members have slept with all the girls at the school. Except for Katherine Harrison.

Katherine returns home at the end of graduation to find Caulter Sterling, his mother and her father standing in the living room. She instantly knows that something is up. She doesn’t like Caulter and wants him as far away from her as possible. Did I forget to mention that they slept together only two weeks prior to this? Silly me.

The Senator springs the news that he and Ella are getting married. Caulter knew it was going to happen because Ella told him. She is holding his trust fund over him so he has to behave until the end of summer if he wants it. Surely he can be good for three months, can’t he? Katherine excuses herself and goes to her room.

She just wants to avoid him as much as possible. The senatorial campaign ends and then the madness begins of the wedding being prepared. All while trying to avoid Caulter and it not working. They have continued to sleep together but the disdain is still there for each other. The day of the wedding comes. The wedding progresses fine but it’s at the reception when everything goes to hell.

It was leaked into the media about the Brighton Bingo game and Kate gets pissed. As she rightfully should have. She storms out of the reception and Caulter follows. He tells her that he loves her and she responds that she wants nothing to do with him. She walks away and it’s a few years before they meet again. But what is the meeting like when they do run into each other again?

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. It had it’s ups and downs but it was hilarious in parts. Definitely a good read.

A Beautiful Mess (Beautiful Mess #1) by T.K Leigh

a beautiful mess

Meet Olivia. She’s in her late twenties. She works at a health/wellness club in a building in Boston. One night she goes out for drinks with her girlfriends and ends up breaking up with the guy she had been sleeping with. One thing to understand is that Olivia does NOT do relationships. They always end up with broken hearts and she doesn’t want any more of a broken heart than what she has already.

Everyone she’s ever loved has left her. Her mother, her father, her childhood best friend, her uncle, everyone. When she was six years old, her mother packed her up in a hurry. When her father arrived, they climbed in the vehicle and left with him. He was a CIA operative. On the highway, a vehicle behind them slams into them and they end up in a guardrail.

She’s pulled out of the vehicle by her childhood best friend and placed in another vehicle. And then he’s knocked out by the butt of a gun to the back of the head after he promises her he’ll always keep her safe. But she doesn’t remember any of her life before this and she doesn’t remember most of the incident.

But when she meets Alexander Burnham, some memories start coming back while she’s asleep. Alexander saves her from Simon, the one she broke up with the same night that she went to the bar with her girlfriends. Alexander doesn’t deal with relationships either. He’s always been in love with his childhood best friend who everyone says died. But he KNOWS in his heart that she’s not dead. He’s been looking for her for all these years.

Running into Olivia, he knows that she’s his best friend from all those years ago. But it doesn’t appear she remembers him or anything that happened. He doesn’t want to tell her what happened. He knows that something is going on and someone is after her. The question is why. He makes it his mission to try and get close to her and figure everything out so he can try and save her and save himself.

This is a great book. I’ve had it on my wishlist for a long time and this morning when I checked it, it was free. So I hurried to buy it and I sat down to read it. This was NOT a disappointing book in the least. I absolutely love it. This book has love, heart-ache, romance and erotica in it. It is an awesome story that one should read if they like romances.

An Heir for the Billionaire #1 by Bethany Rousseau

an heir for the billionaire

Jasmine has a boyfriend. Or I should say, had a boyfriend. She finds out he had cheated on her one night and realizes all the nights he said he was doing stuff with his mom or sister, he was actually cheating. The Queen of Minor Disasters by Antonietta Mariottini

The story opens with Stella daydreaming at work. She is a hostess at one of her parents two restaurants. Stella is in a relationship with Drew and they have been together for three years. Drew was supposed to come to the restaurant that night. When he doesn’t show up, she calls him. He is stuck at work.

Stella doesn’t like being away from him so she decides to go to his apartment in the city a few days later. She lets herself in and looks around. She spots a Tiffany’s engagement ring catalog under a pile of mail and is instantly excited. She’s been waiting for this day for a while.

She makes his favorite pasta for dinner. He arrives home from work and they sit down to dinner. Drew breaks the news to her that she isn’t right for him. She grabs her things and leaves. Instead of going back home, she goes to her friends house and spends the night there.

The next day, along with her soon to be sister-in-law Gina, they devise a plan to get him back. Stella eventually strays from the plan and ruins everything. Her parents try to set her up with a guy from her childhood but she rebels at every turn.

The night before her twenty-eighth birthday, the restaurant is short staffed. She is working as a waitress while her mother acts as the hostess. Roberto and his family are sat in her section. Roberto is nice to her and flirting while she is a tad rude to him. The next morning, after her morning run, she runs into Roberto and agrees to go on a date with him.

Does she back out? Does she go? What happens between them? What happens in this story that I’ve left out. Get your copy on Kindle to find out.

Autumn Getaway (Seasons of Love #1) by Jennifer Gracen

autumn getaway

Lydia was going on a small three day “vacation” so that she could attend her best friend, Melanie’s wedding. The catch, everyone wanted to know about her first. She was recently divorced. So recent in fact, it happened three days prior to her arriving at the hotel. And she has a three and a half year old son who is speech impaired.

Lydia left her son with her ex-husband and went on the retreat. As soon as she is standing at the counter checking in, she meets a guy. So, here we go with the instant romance, right? WRONG. It wasn’t an instant romance like most authors do. Sam, the guy, had to work to get Lydia to open up to him and talk to him. It was a gradual liking for Lydia.

But does Sam share her feelings? Why would Sam want anything more than a one night stand? Does Lydia decide to do what her friends want her to do and hook up with Sam while at this wedding celebration weekend?

To find out these answers, and more, please get this book and read it.

Jennifer Gracen is an author that is new to me. I have never heard of her or read any of her books before. I am glad that I received this book and started to read it.

I can see myself somewhat in Lydia’s situation. Lydia is a character that MANY people could relate too. She is a newly single mom, raising her son mostly on her own. She puts her sons happiness before her own. This fits me and hits home with me because I am a single mother to a daughter and I put her happiness before mine. So I relate to this main character.

All of the characters that Jennifer wrote into this book are believable. I would be hard pressed for others to read this book and not identify, or at least understand, where some of the characters are coming from.

I highly recommend this book. I have the second book in this series and will be reading it as well.
